chris gordon reports. >> reporter: you may have noticed surveillance cameras at metro rail stations, on platforms keeping an eye on passengers, but metro has no cameras on its trains. the new grant from the department of homeland security will allowetro to equip all of its traincars with cameras, supplement the surveillance at its stations, and installed cameras on every metro bus, currently only half of its fleet is equipped with cameras. the homeland security money will allow metro to monitor all of its buses and trains, to manage crowds and crime. >> i think that's a good idea, because you never know who's in there, and you always want someone to keep a lookou for you when you're in the trains, even in the stations, because anything could happen. >> obviously london has done it, and when london first staw"8jñ a lot of people had fears about it. now that they have it in place, it's a model followed around the world by a lot of cities. >> reporter: metro hopes the cameras will allow them to observe any suspicious activity and share it live real time in transit officers. there are ha

chris gordon reports. >> reporter: fbi agents executed a search warrant in the offices of city council member jim graham, and focusing on the chief staff's desk and computers. he is accused of promoting legislation favorable to taxi caps. >> we fully believe once all the evidence has been put in front of a jury he will be completely ven dau tatd. >> reporter: the indictment charged him with accepting a $1,000 bribe on june 19th, with a individual seeking moratorium on taxicab license making them more available and granting him and his associates an exception. that individual met with councilman jim graham that said he would introduce the bill the next day. on july 10th, he presented a copy of the taxicab legislation presented to the person identified in the indictment as individual number one that said this is for you, and thank you very much. individual number one-handed $500 in cash to lowsa, who is voted as saying, you know i need it, and that's why i take it, you know. and councilman graham placed him on leave. >> have you consulted or hired an attorney with any of this? >> i was v

chris gordon joins us. >> reporter: public school spending coulds for half of the montgomery county budget. reduce state aid is making cuts necessary in every department. the montgomery county public school system is the first to step up to the challenge. >> reporter: the montgomery county public school system is planning midyear spending cuts trying to save money without sacrificing the quality of education. >> the restrictions include comprehensive hiring freeze including teachers and other employees and includes restrictions on other expeppedtures such as contractual expenditures and other operational expenses that we would encur. so they're all covered. >> reporter: the committee has overseen spending cuts in each of the past three years because of the soft economy and this year there's an added challenge, some families have chosen to enroll their students in public rather than private schools. >> every year we've been cutting textbook spding. so there's a lot of concerns. we have 2,500 more students in the school system than we even counted for. >> reporter: kay romero is the presiden

chris gordon joins us live from the tacoma metro station with more on the story. chris? >> reporter: well, some people say it's like having big brother watching over you, an invasion of privacy, but others say there should be no expectation of privacy, and it's a small price to pay if it makes metro safer. the department of homeland security is giving metro $78 million to keep a close eye on suspicious activities. >> only half the me rho's buses are currently equipped with cameras on board. the gra from homeland security provides money for all buses to carry cameras. metro rail stations have surveillance cameras, but there are none on any of the trains. the grant money will allow metro to install cameras on all metro cars, and soon monitor all buses. >> that makes me feel a lot safer riding, because in light of the recent accident and homeland security issues, i think i feel safer. >> i would feel more secure, and i this i that if nothing should be hidden. if someone wants to high, they can catch them on the camera. >> metro says the cameras are not meant for face recogn
