i'm here with san rafael fire chief chris gray with a little more information. now, you guys got the call after people reported seeing smoke and fire from the highway. >> that's correct. it was about 2:45 a.m. >> reporter: what were your challenges in fighting this fire? we understand you were able to keep it from the main building. >> that's correct. firefighters made an aggressive attack here. it was a second alarm fire. we had 35 firefighters on scene. anytime you receive a call at a lumberyard, you're concerned for a potentially big fire. firefighters again arrived here, they had 40 to 50-foot flame lengths above the building. and obviously some concerns to get a large amount of water on it quickly. they made an aggressive attack. >> reporter: what are you doing now? i know investigators are out back but you still have a lot of your team in the building. >> that's correct. they are assessing to just make sure that there is no extension of the fire under the interior of the building. fortunately, the building contained an automatic fire sprinkler system that
