chris hatfield became an online sensation several years ago with his on board rendition of david bowie's space oddity. hatfield was also the 1st canadian to conduct a space walk. he spent a total of $166.00 days away from earth and is now on another mission that is a writing best selling books. and we had the chance to ask him about the challenges of filming in 0 gravity. i are, it's a very demanding place to try and get a good quality video and audio production as a noisy environment. lighting is really complicated because you're going at 8 kilometers a 2nd. so the angle between the earth and the sun and you is changing rapidly. you can watch the shadows, walk across the room, you know, and you, you have to basically close all of the windows because if there's any hint of the sun coming in and out, and you get a sunrise and sunset every 46 minutes, then it will disrupt the lighting of your shot. oh, well, everything is fun. in weightlessness. i mean they, they won't have to hold their cameras up, you know, and, and so it's very joyful and, and delightful to be waitlist. you can just tak

that is hard to even come up with being on earth like the white also i thought chris hatfield are canadian asked me. he said, i think the hottest thing for them is going to be lighting wells in real time. it wasn't really the hardest. it was just the fact that we had to wait for it. sometimes it's just once every 40 minutes, it changes into being the organ, then it changes back to be light again. but. but those transitions are really magical one because it doesn't. it's not just like the sunset and some and so so something it's hard to come up with. the sun starts to changing into like a rainbow lights, and some seem like we had a scene where you is sitting in front of the illuminate or we're just talking with earth. san starts to change in so many ways and that created a special space. magical light, which i mean you can imitate here, but i wouldn't just, i would have it would, it would not have been able to create that, come up with that. the idea of all of the challenge and how it was born and whether it was something that you kind of that you always want to do and you seize the opportu

here with us now is colonel chris hatfield who served as commander of the international space stationiction book out today titled the apollo murders. it is good to have you with us. william shatner is not only your fellow canadian, he's a friend of yours. what advice do you have for him ahead of tomorrow's launch? >> yeah, it is a pretty amazing thing for a 90-year-old to do. bill and i were texting back and forth. he doesn't need any advice from me. he's taken a lot of risks in his life. but what i did tell him, we talked several times about this was, don't get all wrapped up in the process, don't be trying to take a picture nobody has ever taken. soak it up. absorb it. be completely human in the moment, notice the nuance of weightlessness and what you can see out the window. this is a real early experience for a passenger to get. i want him to come back as fulsome from it as he can possibly be. >> for folks sitting at home who think i'm not famous like william shatner, not rich like jeff bezos, when can i go to space, when does the future of space travel for everyday regular folks l

commander chris hod hatfield, walk us through. you had more time to sit there and wait before the launch, but these 15 minutes or so, 16, 15 minutes, i would imagine those are going to feel kind of long. >> there's two things going on. one is you've got stuff to do. that's getting all of the things configured right, getting the straps that will hold you securely, getting those done right. getting all your gear in the right place, all the stuff that they rehearsed for, that they trained for. but then suddenly, there's nothing to do. and now all you really have to do is think and imagine about what's going to happen and listen to your heart actually starting to beat faster and faster. our flight surgeons, our doctors, used to come on the loops just to sort of chat and talk with us because they're monitoring our heart. when i flew on the russian rocket on my third space flight, they actually asked us, what music would you like us to play? they tried to find something that would distract and soothe us. that was coming through the head
