i'm chris hayes. special counsel robert mueller is getting ready to charge the russian operatives who stole democratic e-mails and released them to the public to influence the 2016 election. current and former officials familiar with the matter tell nbc news like the indictment a couple weeks ago against the russians who waged "information warfare against the u.s. during the election," the possible new charges are expected to rely heavily on secret intelligence gathered by the cia, fbi, national security agency and the department of homeland security. according to nbc sources, the charges could come in the next few weeks or months. the more mueller's probe advances the more chaotic it seems to get in the white house. the past few days seem to have been especially turbulent even by the standards already set by this administration. and that is not just the view from the outside i haston to add. sources close to the president tell axios that is, i'm quoting, he's in a bad place, mad as hell about the int

i'm chris hayes. a former trump aide who recently spent hours being interviewed by robert mueller's team thinks the special counsel has something on the president of the united states. sam nunberg is a name you probably heard a fair amount today if you were checking the internet at all, and he is a political consultant who was fired from the trump campaign in its early days way back in 2015. a couple of days ago he was questioned by mueller's investigators for over five hours. today in a live phone interview on this number, he told my colleague katy tur that he concluded based on those questions that mueller has the goods on his former boss, president donald j. trump. >> you sat there in that room being questioned by mueller's investigators. i want to hear directly from you. do you think that they have something on the president? >> i think they may. >> what? >> i think that he may have done something during the election. but i don't know that for sure. >> why do you think that? >> i can't explain it
