i'm chris hayes. after two years of total silence from robert mueller's inve investigator investigators, the dam has broken open. it's been about 24 hours since the story broke that attorney general william downplayed the findings in their report and in that time the thrust of the "new york times's" reporting has been matched in quick succession by other outleads including nba news. there are conflicting accounts of what went on behind the scenes leading to the speedy release of the now infamous four-page sinomsis. the simple fact that all of these stories and outlets are coming out, after two years without a peep from inside the special counsel's office shows that people involved in the investigation are deeply frustrated with barr's characterization of their work. they want the public to know about it. we now know the special counsel's team prepared summaries for each section of the more than 300 page report though it's not clear if they were ready to be released from the public. according to the "w

i'm chris hayes. at least one trump is out of a job in the midst of an investigation into the family's taxes. reporters just noticed last night that marianne trump barry, the president's sister retired as a judge in philadelphia after judicial ethics panel began to review her finances. the reviews stem from a blockbuster "new york times" published last fall documenting questionable tax schemes by the trump family in the 1990s. according to the times that examed 100,000 pages of documents and they included instances of outright fraud and allowed the trump family to pocket roughly half a billion dollars that should have gone to the government. the president and his lawyers denied the reporting, but about two months ago, february 1st, individual who is filed complains against the president's sister were notified that the judicial ethics board was taking up the case. just 10 days later, mare withian trump barry filed retirement papers. because she was no longer a judge, the investigation was dropped. in c

i'm joy reed for chris hayes. if one thing is crystal clear in the day and a half since a redacted version of the mueller report was finally released, it is this. the attorney general of the united states misled congress and the american people about mueller's substantial evidence incriminating the president. how judiciary president jerry nadler issued subpoenas for a full un redacted report. the start of what's likely a protracted legal filt and the plans to kul robert mueller himself as others to testify before the committee. william barr will have a lot to answer for. the mueller report does not say what barr told us it said. both in his four-page summary of mueller's findings and his stunningly political press conference before releasing the report. barr distorted or straight up lied to clean it up and make it look better for the president. it states that mueller's team applied the framework of conspiracy law, not the concept of collusion which is not an actual legal term. that's mot what barr said yesterday.

i'm chris hayes. the president of the united states reportedly offered the new head of one of the government security services a pardon to break the law. according to cnn and "the new york times," during a trip to the border last week, the president told kevin mcaleenan that the commissioner of customs and border protection and since evaluated to acting secretary of dhs, that he'd pardon mcaleenan if he got in trouble for following illegal orders from the president. "the new york times" reports the president was urging mcaleenan to shut down the border altogether, while according to cnn, the president told him to block asylum seekers from entering the country, which is against u.s. law. the sources for both stories said it wasn't clear if the president was joking, but if the president did, in fact, make such an offer, and it certainly looks like he did, it would, of course, fly directly in the face of his constitutional duty to, quote, take care of the laws we faithfully executed. it would also be the

"the washington post" reporting the special counsel complained to the attorney general in a letter on march 27th regarding barr's four-page summary that had been released just three days prior. according to mueller's letter from a copy received by "the washington post," the summary letter the department sent to congress and released to the public late in the afternoon on march 24th did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance of this office's work and conclusions, mueller wrote. there is no public confusion about critical aspects of the results of our investigation. this threatens to undermine essential purpose for which the department appointed the special counsel to assure full public confidence in the outcome of the investigations. mueller did
