thanks for coming out on this rainy as eliot clear i'm not chris hayes. but i'm delighted to be here. i am a midwesterner by birth and by choice. but i have spent about the last 25 years of my life imagined actively inhabiting an area that's about a 30 mile radius from where we are right now. and so it's always kind of like coming back to a second home to to come back to cambridge, come back to boston, and i should say you're my first audience with this book. so i will be trying some things out on you for many years. i this nagging suspicion that the biography of the transcendentalist authors, especially and thoreau who i studied in grad school, i had a had a sense that the biographers leaving at least some thing out of their account. the women that i write about would appear, but they tend to appear in the margins of the book. and they were often diminished or derided in that. i didn't pick on immediately, but gradually i began to to question mary moody emerson, who i'm going go into greater detail in a moment with it was often described as purely an ecc
