msnbc's chris jansing at the white house.not far from where the president gave his speech eight years ago. >> going back to a place where a young community organizer named barack obama turned politician set the world on its ear with his speech at the 2004 convention. many people will be in chicago tomorrow for that farewell address. this is the first of a series of interviews that i'll be doing with those people who know him best, who have, to steal a line from hamilton, have been in the room where it happens. here's part of my conversation. >> i've been here six years and i still get chills walking through the white house gates. >> it never gets old, does it? >> never gets old. >> when you walk into the room, can you sense his mood? >> yes. >> are there tells? >> there are moments when somebody's talking too long and you can see his face go -- he does that. and you start to feel very awkward. it's almost like you want to pass a note to the person. >> what don't people see about president obama that as he's leaving you want t

chris jansing was outside for that, and got to see what we could not, as that helicopter lifted off. was whether or not donald trump would walk barack obama to the door of the helicopter. as you know, brian, for history, the good-bye was set up on the stairs, and then that changed eight years ago when the newly minted president obama decided to walk george w. bush to his helicopter and not only that but hugged him and it was really a sign of that peaceful transition of power, of the graciousness he has shown throughout the eight years that he is here, and also apparently setting a new tradition, when we saw that walk across here on the east lawn, over to the helicopter. the other thing i would note that struck me, because i've spent a lot of time over the last couple of weeks talking to staffers who have spent much of the last eight years of their lives in the white house, and some of them even before that, this must be the most emotional moment at least in terms of sheer imagery to see him getting on marine one, that is no longer marine one, waving good-bye for the very last time, g

chris jansing is live. chris, what are we going to expect to see on monday -- friday.thn donald trump wl have his first day. >> reporter: this is a city that likes to entertain, that likes social events. this is the one big party they throw every four years. it might rain a little bit on friday. so here we go. donald trump is going to stay overnight at blair house, he's going to go to a church service and then he's gng to go to what they call the carriage entrance. that when they had carriages. he'll come up in a limo and enter the capitol there. s that where he'll take the oath of office starting at noon eastern time. that is where he'll give his inaugural address and then he's going to come out here. this is a significant time because it's where he is going to say good-bye to the obamas and what does all this cost? it's such a big event. $200 million by the estimate of the folks who are arranging this. the biggest cost by far security, but also you have the balls, you have all these other events like the parade and ultimately it is a kind of a public/private partners

chris jansing also following the latest. understandably the concerns when you have a 92-year-old individual being treated for pneumonia, as well as the come b -- >> no presidential couple has ever been married longer, 72. even though she wasn't feeling well, she was by his bedside as much as she could be. i think the key here, the sentence, otour average 92-year-old." as you mentioned, pneumonia is very serious in any senior citizens. the fatality rate is almost exclusive for people over 65 and when you listen to his sons talk about him, they talk about how resilient he is. we saw him many so she has been released. she was suffering from fatigue and a cough, as you just heard, brought on by trying to take care of him. everyone obviously feeling very good about the fact that he is doing better. they'll be watching him very closely. but this press conference very good news for everyone who admires the bush family. tam ron? >> according to organizers, 3 million people took part in peaceful women's rights marches around the worl

chris jansing is live at the white house. the former president is 92 years old and this is a concern. how is he doing? >> he's said to be resting comfortably. they brought him to the hospital as a precaution, and having said that anytime you are 92 years old and he suffered from parkinson's and gets around mostly in one of the motorized wheelchair or a regular wheelchair, and it's a sub of concern, and he was hospitalized for the same reason in 2014, and you might remember in 2015 he was hospitalized after falling and breaking a bone in his neck, and after having said that, you also know those famous pictures of him on his 90th birthday jumping out of a plane in a tandem parachute jump, and he invited wounded warriors out on the lake for his 92nd birthday, and they are hopeful this morning he will be in the hospital a couple days and then released once they get him stabilized. >> that's one great american and we are wishing him health. >>> the trump nominees hearings to begin at the top of the hour. if a man nicknamed the kin
