chris lawrence at the live desk with late developments for us. chris? >> reporter: yeah, jim. the president was pretty blunt, as well, telling republicans if they don't like his plan, they should pass. now he's going to vegas to sign the executive action he announced last night and he's doing it in a place that resonates with his supporters. del sol high school, where he has spoken twice before. the first time was as candidate obama. then in january of 2013, just as he started his second term, president obama came to the school to make his pitch for immigration reform. should be known, nearly one-third of nevada's population is hispanic. critics say the president went back on his own word when he said before the election that he was no emperor and couldn't just do what he wanted on immigration. and while some congressional republicans are threatening to sue the president over this, they also acknowledge they take control of both chambers in january, the pressure will be on them to come up with their own reform bill. at the live desk, chris lawrence. >>> in the meantime, republ

chris lawrence has more. >> reporter: one student is in the hospital tonight after he is in care. a university official had to hold an emergency meeting with fraternity and sorority leaders and put a stop to all of their activities for now. last week, morgan town police arrested $19 student when a party spilled out into the street. they were out of control, kicking off garbage cans and there was a lot of alcohol involved and they were under 21. late last night came what the school calls a catastrophic medical emergency. a teenage student collapsed with no pulse, no respiration. police and emts gave him cpr and rushed him to the hospital. that led to the emergency meeting today in which west virginia put a moratorium on all the fraternity and sorority activities. it affects more than two dozen groups and 1,500 members. the dean of students said -- the student in the hospital is 18. s from buffalo and parents had to come down to be with him in the hospital. detectives are trying to identify any fraternity members and pledges who were with him last night. i'm chris lawrence. >>> a ca

chris lawrence it at the live desk with the latest. >> reporter: police have identified the man they say shot up a police headquarters and a federal courthouse in austin. his name is larry mcwilliams. he's also accused of trying to set mexico's consulate on fire. calls started coming in early this morning about someone attacking government buildings. the shooter fired more than 100 rounds and austin's police chief says its headquarters was extensively damaged. he also shot into the guard house at the federal courthouse there and opened fire on the mexican consulate. police say he was wearing a bullet proof vest. one officer did return fire and mcwilliams was killed, although it's not clear if it was the officer's shot or if he killed himself. police are still trying to figure out why he did this. at the live desk, chris lawrence. >> thank you, chris. >>> protesters shut down walmart on black friday. >> and it had nothing to do with the deals. new fallout in ferguson. we're going to tell you how the tension is still high after the shooting death of an unarmed black teen. >>> and chaos

i'm chris lawrence. four teenagers were inside the car when they had trouble and pulled over last night in the inner loop of the beltway. they were waiting for help when a woman crashed her jeep into their car. police say she may have been drunk. molette green has more. >> reporter: in the light of day you can see the massive impact of the halloween night crash. the rear left side of this honda accord took the brunt of it. that's where dominique petty of potomac was a passenger. the gonzaga high school senior was pronounced dead at the scene on the beltway near persimmon tree road. maryland state police say the honda was disabled and off the road on the shoulder around 2:00 a.m. when this gray jeep compass hit the car. yo acan see there is heavy damage to the right front side. police say the driver, 24-year-old margaret baize drifted off the road struc e honda carrying dominique, three other juveniles and the driver. at this point in the investigat there is still a lot we don't know. maryland state polic

. >> chris lawrence has been going through the paperwork filed in this case today. he joins us with the latest in the studio. >> yes, this man was a veteran, a soldier, a father of six. these documents show why they mean to make metro pay. harold ingram's obituary mentions the time he served in the army and the time he spent in the war. in fact, he was still serving time in the military. he was a contractor working on the red line tunnel in october of last year, part of a crew repairing the rails near union station and judiciary square. the lawsuit says at some point the hose ruptured shooting a fire ball from the hose, which caused a metro crane prior to that time -- operator to raise the crane. when it started to swing wildly, it smashed into ingram. the family filed a wrongful death lawsuit, few $10 million, they claim that metro failed to train and teach the operator to use that speed swing properly. they did not want to comment on the case. it has been assigned to a judge with the first hearing in january. >>> thank you, turning to our weather, it is already co

. >> we want to go live to both campaigns, but let's start with chris lawrence in annapolis. are they sell baiting over there yet? >> reporter: they are celebrating, doreen, perhaps a little prematurely, but every time someone gets on the podium and announces a new round of numbers, the cheers are getting louder and louder. what sounded out as hopeful is now sounding with a little bit of confidence. the latest numbers put larry hogan up by nearly 90,000 votes total. and when you drill down on some of those numbers. when you look at frederick county where he is winning, they point to that as a real sign of success. now the only republican to win, to become governor of maryland in the last 50 years was bob ear early. i spoke to him a few hours ago to get his take as he was watching some of these numbers come in. he said the key is going to be in montgomery county. he knows that no republican is going to win montgomery county, but he said larry hogan has to get close to 40%. he was down near in the low 30s. that has inched up now to 35. so he's getting closer to there. he also l

let me go to chris jansing. lawrence, stay with me. . >> good morning. i'm not sure exactly what you've covered so far. i just put on my moik crow phone. but nbc news has learned that chuck hagel later today will be stepping down as defense secretary. what i can tell you that in the little less than two years he has served as defense secretary, he has not made his way into the obama inner circle. he was the lone republican. he was brought in particularly for the purpose of winding down the war in afghanistan. there has been a renewed focus here on what to do about the threat of terror. particularly isis. clearly the decision has been made. now, officially the reporting is this was a mutual decision that has come to by a series of meetings over the last several weeks. there have been indications certainly from the defense department that chuck hagel planned to continue throughout the final two years of the obama presidency. we will hear more about that later on today. it looks as they we will be getting a new defense secretary. chuck hag

chris may. this happened on lawrence road, and "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco is live at the scene now, three people aboard that school bus, and the driver of the bmw are all at, area hospitals, this evening, being treated, for minor injuries. chopper 3hd, was overhead, earlier this afternoon shortly after this happened, police say around 3:00 o'clock today. bus was coming from rockbrook school in skill man, new jersey on board was a 16 year-old student, 71 year-old bus aid and 44 year-old bus driver when it collided with a bmw, heading in the opposite direction on 206. here's what police say happened next. >> bus was traveling south, on state highway 206, just behind us, and the bmw, on state highway 206. they don't have an exact location of impact, and still being determined, and one of the vehicles crossed over the center line, to create the impact, but that is still undernvestigation. >> reporter: everybody on board that school bus was wearing a seat belt and a 26 year-old driver of that bmw was able to walk away from this crash with only bps and bruises.
