[laughter] >> that was trembling, dyana furmansky and chris mooney on the environment. we will be back with more live coverage at the 20 to two some festival of books shortly. >> here's a look at some books that are being published this week. >> i teach at georgetown university, and this year i met the woodrow wilson center as a public policy scholar so occasionally i write books. and i talk to some veterans and soldiers about going to war and coming home. >> what is your connection to the naval academy? >> i used to teach at the naval academy for two and a half years. i was there and knock your distinguished chair in ethics. they had a cheating scandal, and they were in the limelight being near washington and they needed to brainstorm about how to teach ethics. and so they called me in and before -- >> why you? >> that's a good question. i taught ethics for 20 years. and some of that before at newmac as a graduate student. and they were surprised that they been people that were teaching ethics as part of the curriculum. so we modified the course to talk about the chara

chris mooney, the author of -- town, next one down. i'm sorry, the author of "a safeway in arizona" which exploits with the shooting of congress from a gabrielle giffords in 18 of the people here in tucson last year and tell us about the state of today's politics in arizona. and then finally, chris mooney is the author of -- "the republican brain" . how democrats and republicans are literally wired differently. that is why we have such differences between them. so here we are. why don't we get started. i want to start with you. a point you really make at the start of your book, "nixonland," about how the really came a time in america. richard nixon was particularly gifted in developing the strategy that republicans demonized their democratic opponents as the enemies of america. we see that still in use in politics today. talk a little bit about how they got started and how you see that playing out in today's politics. >> well, i think an important part of the establishment context was the timeframe in which a steady in k-9. 1965, and e

. >> i have to of them for chris mooney and they have to do with about your hemolysis.the first one is. i don't mention the financial contributions made by serious fossil fuel related industries for example the republicans get to both parties to it how much of their goals that play when you see site for six years ago president bush was saying global reality was the. republicans who are running for office or avoiding that almost entirely in the second, i think this is a broad question, is back 30 years ago, environment in general was more of a bipartisan issue. they were in their mental, they were republicans to pass environmental bills, republicans interviewed in my job in favor of the environmental legislation and now it's almost 100% in this state and other states polarized partisan. is what we are seeing on the climate change just a part of the bigger picture. i think that at the beginning of the climate issued a fossil fuel industry was a life behind the tacking kyoto. and they funded the think tanks. but we have seen that the point. that is not the trend anymore. m
