news reporter chris nguyen has more on the investigation. >> reporter: it's a journey that's left many puzzled, a 2-year-old boy found calling for the help on the grounds of the woods apartments in san jose just after 3:00 this morning. police believe he walked over from a couple blocks away. >> if the person was sleeping, is kid walked out, things like that happen. >> reporter: officer albert morales says the person caring for the child didn't notice him gone till hours later. >> it's my understanding when the call came in at about the 9:21 from the guardian, the message was they just woke up and noticed that the 2-year-old was missing. >> reporter: a woman who happened to be walking outside overnight noticed the child covered in mud wearing only a die mer and immediately little alerted a security guard who quickly responded. >> mom, dad, mom, dad in spanish. >> that was it? >> that's it. >> reporter: investigators say it's unclear how long he was outside for. some who live at the complex are still in shock. >> you don't think about that like that's going to happen, my baby will get o

she spoke with our chris nguyen about her pain and why she's fighting back. >> reporter: for this ho heartbroken mother the past five months have been nothing but hell. >> i feel my life over now. my son was everything for me. >> reporter: on march 9th her world forever changed knowing that her son suffered from depression, amanda called santa clara police for help multiple times that day feeling for his mental well being after he barricaded himself inside a bedroom. >> he never had a gun or nothing i his bedroom. he never had something. he had good record. he's a good guy. >> reporter: jesus was shot and killed by police that afternoon after they say he threatened them with a gun. attempts to tase him were unsuccessful. he fled out of a bedroom window but found by police near a retaining wall. attorney is representing the family and filed a lawsuit. >> the police were aware he had a psychiatrist issue. he was unarmed and essentially naked. there's no justification for that. we're trying to get answers. >> reporter: they have worked closely with those impacted by officer involved sho

i'm chris nguyen. we're starting this half hour with the weather. >> here is a look at the current numbers around the bay area. we have 80 in san ramon. 70 in hayward. mountain view, 73 in gilroy. 59 at the coast. the fog will clear there. sunny beach day, we're warmer by almost ten degrees in napa. warmer everywhere. another spare the air alert. the air quality, not so great. inland east bay and the santa clara valley. here is the heat today. the orange is the advisory. the pink is the excessive heat warning and that includes everyone except if you're along the san mateo coast. and the marin county coast. so those places, you'll enjoy 70s and sunshine. more sun and warmer today. 60s to mid-70s, right through this morning and by the afternoon, mid-90s inland. up to 106 once again. so, boy, hope you have a cooling center, a pool and stay out of the sun, stay hydrated. and looking for a warm night tonight. the fog is back, but it is not going to share its cooling influence for much of us. i'll explain in
