chris reyes explains, the person he charged in the case is a former student. >> our detectives were able to locate the ak-47 replica which was determined to be a gun with electrical tape placed over the orange tip that's supposed to be over the end of the gun. >> reporter: reports of the man with the gun roaming around led to hours of heavy police presence. police lifted the lockdown a found hours later after it was believed that he left the area in the car. but wasn't until wednesday that police made quakt the man they say rented the vehicle. that man turned himself in. >> an additional investigation with the witness coming forward led to us identify michael kessler, a 21-year-old man from fairfield, california, agency the person responsible for the large police response. >> police say he was performing a video for snap chat. >> it's terrifying. i think he put himself in grave danger with our students and our community. >> reporter: kessler faces several charges including possession of a weapon near school grounds and brandishing a replicated firearm. >> i did hear from parents. they we

chris reyes joins us from lafayette. chris, why is this just coming to light now? >> good evening. well this complaint comes days just after a new law passed in california that bill extends the statute of limitations in sexual abuse cases giving victims up to the age of 40 years old to file a lawsuit. the previous limit was 26 years old. that law took effect january 1st. so that might be why we're just hearing about this case now. >> you know, there's certainly shock and concern and, you know, the principals would be better to ask that question because i'm not interacting directly with the parents or the students. >> we paid a visit to the high school where 54-year-old kyle ann wood was teaching pe and photography at the time of her arrest. we heard students there chanting free miss wood. wood was arrested on wednesday night at her home in pleasant hill. residents across the street from where she lives told us they were shocked to hear about what happened. they told us that wood is a good and hel helpful neighbor. wood is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail. court documents show th
