chris: president biden trying to put a positive spin on a disappointing jobs report by pointing to overall job growth since he took office. it's time for our sunday group. jason rileyf the wall street journal, jackie alemany of the washington post, and former democratic congressman, harold ford junior. jason, the prevailing view in the white house has been that americans will judge joe biden on two key issues, first off all the economy, secondly, covid. when you have a disappointing jobs report which is blamed largely on the delta surge of the coronavirus, how damaging is that for this president? >> i think it's quite damaging. if i were the white house, i would take this very seriously. i don't think it's a blip at all. i think we've seen a trend line here dating back to the spring. and what i found most disturbing in the job numbers is the number of workers, labor force participation, there are 5 million fewer people working today than before covid and that is quite alarming and i think it has to do a lot with disincentives to go back to work. you mentioned earlier that we ended the supplemental unemployment insurance which is good. i'm not sure it was reflected
