chris sanchez reports. >> reporter: flashing lights around homicide scenes are growing more common in jose. with fewer officers on the streets, they are setting out new priorities. number one, fighting violent crime. >> when you're on pace to have a record number of homicides which we are now, that has to go to the top. >> reporter: but that means nuisance crimes are dropping on the list. like illegal fruit selling, door to door soliciting and noise complaints. call but officers may want more answers before they respond to that loud music. >> is it just music that is loud or are there people breaking bottles in the street, peeling out, minors drinking? those types of things because the more information the better chance of us determining if we will respond. >> reporter: there were 1,564 violent crimes like rape rb robbery, and i'm aggravated assault. but the homicide rate is double. mayor chuck reed supports the police chief and adds that the problem could get worse because of governor jerry brown's prison realignment plan. >> i'm also concerned about their shipping criminals back int
