"today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us live with what a new audit is revealing about the department. good morning, chris. >> it seems like 2017 was a year of both inside the san jose police department and also in their interactions with the community. the san jose independent police auditor is going to present his findings for the last year to the city council tonight. the ipa will present that at the city council meeting at 6:00 tonight. a refresher here, the independent police auditor reviewed citizen complaints after the inferternal affairs concludes their review. a lot of numbers in this report thbuiugh your screen. in 2017, the sjpd got 222 citizen complaints and that is 24% fewer public complaints than the year before. but of those complaints, 16% more were valid dated, that is those complaints were found to be valid, the highest since the independent police officer's office was created. there is a decrease in the use of force and arrest complaints from the public. but also an increase in officer discipline including as you mentioned the firing of two officers and the discipline of one officer for
