chris sanchez joins us with how people feel about this latest move. chris. >> reporter: well, hi there, laura. at 9:30 this morning, the california department of public health will update the number of cases here in california, talk about the outreach they have done to make sure parents vaccinate their kids, at the same time this is happening, just a day after parents showed up in sacramento in force to ask lawmakers to leave the decision about vaccinations in their hands and not in the hands of public health officials. >> that didn't go far, though. yesterday, the, one of the senate health committees voted 6-2 to give them the final say if signing off on vaccine exemptions for children headed to public schools. lawmakers say they had to do this, some doctors are writing exemptions for pay, not because of a child's personal medical history. now as of today, there are 37 cases in california of the measles. there were eight new cases reported this week alone, this is in sacramento and also in l.a. nationwide, the cases are now at 680. we will cover that
