there's also chris sembroski who saw that super bowl ad for this flight, entered a rifle.s friend got the golden ticket and gave it to him. that's how he ended up here. finally the mission's leader and commander, jared isaacman who is an entrepreneur, a billionaire. he funded this flight. he's also a pilot. he went to spacex back in october and they were talking about something totally separate. but he said, hey, if you ever want to send a private screw to space, think of me. now less than a year later, here he is strapped on top of this falcon 9 rocket about to blast into space. the reason this is all so important is because when spacex founder elon musk founded spacex, he did it with the goal of making humanitarian multi-planetary. he wants to colonize mars. and in order to do that, you have to be able to prove that your everyday american, your average human, people who don't necessarily have the right stuff as government nasa astronauts are pretty much required to do, you have to prove that the everyday astronaut is able to survive in space, capable of dealing with all

the same place she received treatment as a child. 42-year-old chris sembroski got his seat through ann proctor is a geologist with a ph.d in science education. she was a finalist in the nasa astronaut program in 2009, daughter of a former nasa employee during the apollo era. so those crew members were jubilant as they stepped back on to solid ground. cnn's kristin fisher recaps their historic voyage. >> reporter: you can hear the sonic boom here at port canaveral as the crew of "inspiration4" made its way through the earth's atmosphere in a spacex crew dragon capsule before splashing down just off the coast of florida in the atlantic ocean. it was the culmination of an historic three-day trip to outer space. at times, they flew even higher than the international space station. and what made this mission so extraordinary is really just how ordinary the crew was. this was the first time that there was a mission to orbit with no professional astronauts onboard. they spent their time doing scientific experiments and medical experiments, but they also just played the ukulele and took pictu
