attorney for the middle district of georgia and chris timmons a former georgia prosecutor. michael, let's kick it off with you. the first guilty plea in the florida election sub version case tonight is from the bail bondsman scott hall who has flipped and will testify in any future hearings on trials. what does that mean for trump or other co-defendants like sidney powell? help us put this in context. >> it's interesting when you look at this guilty plea, remember that mr. hall was charged with the grandest election stealing effort in the history of the world basically and now they've come down to five misdemeanor charges and no jail time. it doesn't even lose his right to vote because he won't be a convicted felon. so if is curious to me why the government needed him and the state wanted to use him in this way. i know part of his plea deal is he will cooperate and give truthful testimony. it may be important in the powell case and may not be. we just don't know yet the depth w of what he knows and may have told investigators. there are benefits to him. he is a bail bondsma

. >> i want to bring in former georgia prosecutor chris timmons. i have been thinking a lot about this case as many people have and i know you have been a prosecutor in de cobb county, and exactly where my mind has gone with all of this because when it was asked to be removed from meadows at the very least to the federal district court, when you go to federal court, you don't just have the fulton county to draw from a jury pool. you've got about ten counties to draw from. and then you have different strategies about how you want to figure your injury, what the voir dire process is going to be about, all those processes come into play but it's all about the jury. now with immediate most with the process blocked, you have also got to go through the jury process first. what strikes you as a hurdle in picking this jury? >> well i think as you know laura from having been a prosecutor, it's not whether they know about the case. it is whether their mind is so fixed and definite that they can't make a decision on the case. in other words they have already

let's talk more about it with evan perez, trial attorney and former georgia prosecutor chris timmons till with us. chris, i'm going to go to you in georgia. what do you make of what we saw in the court this morning? do you have any sense of what it means for the big political story, which is a former president, current candidate for president, and when he will be tried in georgia? >> the biggest thing is the severance. you have two going first. i was surprised by that because what that means is the judge is probably looking at around two years of trial, though he really wants to do jury selection quickly if he can. i really think that what we're going to see is a preview of the trump trial. probably 80% of the evidence is going to overlap. i have tried a number of rico cases, and whether it's severed or not, the trial strategy is going to be the same. i don't think you're going to hide any of the cards if you're the state. you're going to go for the win. we're going to hear a lot of the evidence that is available and is going to be use d against th trump defendants or the other 17. >>

and chris timmons. we have a view here. trump's lawyers are honing in on this comment, on n the case of a rioter from january 6th. the people who manned that capitol were there in royalt loyalty to oneern. who remains free to this very day. that rallied you to take action and to fight have not been charged. i wonder when you think about that statement there. are you seeing that as a cause to have her recuse herself? a lot of judges on this docket have had to grapple with confidents. is it enough to recuse her? it will be largely in her own discretion to make that determination. and there's not a chance that she's going to recuse herself from this case. she has asked for an expedited briefing. they will put it in context. these comments were made by folks being sentenced in the cases. she made an appropriate chance. >> i think it gives her the road map and context. and she will be the one hearing the case. there's so many judges that had to preside over the many cases already. in another filing, trump is asking to dismiss se

commentator and former lieutenant governor of georgia, geoff duncan and former georgia prosecutor chris timmonsm glad you're here. jeff, i'll begin with you. we already known the unprecedented nature of having a former president indicted not once, not twice, four teams. now we'll be able to see the former president on trial for conspiracy, rico beyond. is this good for the public to be able to watch this? >> i think it's important for the public to watch this. we've got to get this right. got to get facts out there. we got to make sure americans know what really happened so it never happens again. i think america will be shocked to see some of these facts to surface, the deseptember task force together, overwhelming dissolution of the facts and quite honestly the unamerican nature of all of this, it will be an important process of the healing process. i hope it's never to be repeated again >> there's been a number of trials in recent american history we've been watching on television, oj comes to mind, alex murdaugh as well. a variety of trials in between. people lean in to see how the system i

and chris timmons, the former georgia prosecutor. so, chris, let me start from you with you on that. based on everything you've heard from the judge today, so we got you know, we got to see it, what do you think he wants to see happen here? >> i think first and foremost, he'd love to see the two speedy trial demands withdrawn but i don't think that's going to happen. alternatively, i think he wants a little understanding of what's going to happen to the removal in federal court. i think that was his biggest concern that they might start a trial for everyone including the potential defendants that might have their case removed then end up having to remove the case to federal court. if that were to happen, it causes some double jeopardy concerns. i think that's his biggest issue is he doesn't want to start there. the other issue is when you're dealing with 19 people, even trying to find a courtroom big enough to hold a trial like that is going to be tricky. the other side of that is how then would you like to do this trial twice. each t

i want to bring in chris timmons now, former prosecutor in georgia. chris, obviously you've talked a lot about the fulton county probe. could this new reporting from the "new york times," obviously specifically trump's former assistant, he said you don't know anything about the boxes. could that have impact on the case in fulton county? >> absolutely, erin. i think it's got three possibilities of coming in. one, the least likely is a reindictment including these additional predicate acts and further into the conspiracy. i don't think it fits quite that neatly. second, it could be brought in and there'd have to be a motion filed under what's referred to as similar acts, that it's close to or even brought in as maybe kind of a distant part of the rico scheme but under a motion what we refer to as evidence 404 b. and then the third one, i think the former president is going to take the opportunity to testify in the georgia case. i really do. a number of people think that he's not going to. i think he's not going to miss that opportunity to be on every tel

here to unpack the unsealed report and what it may reveal about the case is chris timmons, a former countyte or and law profess or at georgia state university. chris, thanks for joining us. before we get into this special grand jury report, i want to ask you about some news we just received. a judge has ruled against the former white house chief of staff mark meadows' request to move his case from georgia to a federal court. tell us your reaction to that. is that what we expected? >> that's exactly what i expected, amna. i think we when you look at the case, what's important there is whether mr. meadows was acting under color of his office, in other words, was he acting as the chief of staff as the president of the united states or as par of the campaign? and whathe judge found is that he was acting as a part of the campaign not as the chief of staff to the president accordingly it would not be proper to remove the case. amna: that let the indictment of 18 hours including former president trump. want to ask you about this special grand jury and the report that was released today. explainin

here to share their insights, chris timmons, criminal defense attorney joey jackson, cnn political directoravid chalian and cnn senior justice correspondent, evan perez. chris, i want to start with you in georgia, and about this notion of the former president's request to sever. he said, or his attorneys said, "requiring less than two months' preparation time to defend a 98-page indictment charging 19 defendants with 41 various charges, including a rico conspiracy charge with 161 overt acts, would violate president trump's federal and state constitutional rights to a fair trial and due process of law." that's got to be something that the judge is going to take seriously. >> dana, absolutely. but i don't think it's going to be granted, for a couple reasons. first of all, i thought it was interesting, when you look at the pleading, that only steve sadow signed it, and they conveniently left off jennifer little. i'm sure that's intentional but i don't think the judge is going to forget that. secondarily, attorneys are told all the time, you have to go to trial. having a trial in september and

chris timmons just talked about how many people go in a cell in fulton county jail to fit in the former president of the united states. there are just moments when you say i can't believe we're talking about this. but here's trump even now, okay, after this filing, he comes out, he posts on truth social. he calls jack smith deranged, the special counsel. he says i'm campaigning for president against an incompetent person who has weaponed the doj and fbi to go after political opponent and i'm not allowed to comment. so, what do you do there? calling somebody deranged who is involved in prosecuting the case would seem to be a violation, wouldn't it? this hasn't been issued yet. but if this is what he's going to do, it would be. >> it's daring the judge to impose the order. it's in fact an exact replica of what is in jack smith's proposal, jack smith gives many examples, this is an egregious form of one of the examples that jack smith gives. and the conditions of trump's release don't just specify intimidation of witnesses. it also says intimidations of officers of the court. who are offic
