bret baier joins us, anchor of "special report," chris wallace anchor of fox news sunday. the president's and the white house's handling of this situation so far? i mean, three scandals, you know, it hasn't been a great week. >> no, it's been a bad week. in fact, somebody in the white house called it hell week. but they were trying desperately to get out ahead of those scandals yesterday after taking a lot of incoming in the previous days this week. the president, of course, about 6:17 last night making the statement that, basically, he had fired the irs commissioner. in addition, there was a document dump late in the afternoon. the white house releasing a hundred pages of e-mails about the talking points on benghazi. and then in a kind of interesting thing at the same time that the administration is defending a very broad subpoena of the phone records of ap reporters, the white house came out and said that it supports a federal shield law to protect reporters and their confidential sources. i'm not sure that's going to convince a lot of the people who have their subpoenaed

. >> jamie: joining me now anchor of fox news sunday chris wallace good morning. >> good morning to youhave to join on something that dan said. he said the irs acting as a non-partisan agency. that is interesting because if these attacks are proven, did they act in a partisan way? >> absolutely, if they are proven and the president has in effect said he has talked about angry outraged -- so clearly what the irs was doing was improper for a non-partisan agency and we hope they applied the tax law fairly. the question i was asking and neither of them could answer -- that is untrue. i will say ryan could not answer but dan did. he says the targeting or the investigation of the targeting until a couple of weeks ago at the white house. now ryan says we don't know. he made an interesting point. he said we talk about the inspector general reports he said it was audit on the actions they took. it was not an investigation they look at the emails and phone records to see what was going on. that is what the inspector general at irs is doing now. there is a lot of information we don't know about wh

chris wallace joins me now, the anchor of "fox news sunday.".u know, first of all, looking over all of this, and we'll show some of the specific quotes from this but what's your general reaction to what has been disclosed this morning? >> well, and it's a very interesting report by jonathan karl over at abc news. we need to give him credit. a dozen times these talking points were gone over and there really does seem to have been a pretty clear narrative because the first initial report that came out of the cia was, one, that the cia had been warning the state department for some months about growing radicalism and growing threat in benghazi and then talked about the fact that the people who conducted the attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi were islamic extremists with ties to al qaeda. the reaction from the top spokeswoman at the state department, victoria nuland, why was do we want to be giving this kind of information to our enemies, people in congress who may be use this information to bash us? and, you know, it seems there was a pretty

. >> dick durbin went on sunday with chris wallace and he asked him about the letter october 1went afterave been associated with. i will say that about dick durbin he is not like schumer and others running away from the letters they said fe ibming surprise that the irs would do what they told him to do. durbin said, of course, i wrote that letter and i'm proud of it. i tell you why i did it because cross roads was racing millions and rove was boasting about it i wanted to pick a conservative group out. wallace said what about the fact that you didn't have any liberal groups in your letter. he said well, i thought if they investigated cross roads all of the groups would get the message. sure, the liberal groups would be just laughing. chortling with glee that the irs used to go after a conservative group to do exactly what it they had been doing for decades in conformity i admit with the guidance and rules of the irs. the conservatives began to duplicate with the democrats and liberals had done. >> sean: an interesting point. they were doing it for a long time and without any competition.
