let's bring in our panel, chris wallace, judge ken starr, juan williams and dana perino. chris, let's start with you. your thoughts? >> chris: well, as somebody who has covered a lot of trials, and i know judge starr has probably been on a lot more than i have, when you listen to direct examination and the prosecutor for -- is talking to the plaintiff and the plaintiff is getting a chance to tell his story, it usually is pretty devastating. and then when you get cross-examination by the defense attorney, sometimes it turns out not to be quite as effective. so you have to be somewhat cautious in reacting to what we have heard so far. we haven't heard what devin nunes or his lawyer, steven caster is going to ask. having said that i think that william taylor was a very impressive witness and was very damaging to the president. first of all, as you pointed out, he took very copious notes at almost every conversation when he put quotes in his opening statement he said those were direct quotes from what was said. it also doesn't hurt that he has a voice like edward r. murrow. he

and that's why it's so important for folks like chris wallace, brett bayer, others on fox news when theye people tuning in and when they are represented by those republican senators to tell the truth to state the facts, not to put spin on something that will ultimately decide the future of this election but the future of this country and the future of the american people and what they know and what they don't know. i have this theory, and i trotted it out on jake sherman. he was a little skeptical. but i wonder as this goes on. there are very few live events other than sporting events, olympics, crimes, tragedies, that we all experience together that get road block coverage, six networks take them, three networks, three cable channels. and you cannot predict the impact of a collective television experience. and i think if you look at fox news, they could not avoid covering the facts of what happened today. and the facts of what happened today are that donald trump sought to threaten or intimidate a witness in realtime. >> and the problem with that is that they're watching it in realtime

we still ever amazing panel, bret baier, chris wallace, we have ken mccarthy, and here with me here martha maccallum, and juan williams in new york. bret baier, can i turn to you first for any thoughts over how this afternoon has gone? >> well, slowly. the republican counsel at times, i think it was tough to follow where exactly he was going to try to land at some of those questions. there were some moments that he had from the witness from the ambassador that she was not a part of some of the decision-making. that she was removed, that she was not a first-hand witness to a lot of what has happened. some of the questioning from the congressman, especially devin nunes got that out a little bit more. what we have not seen as any questions about this. this is the rudy giuliani statement and letter paid any questions about the conspiracy that he talks about on 2016 that was happening inside the ukraine. any questions about george soros and his activities. any questions about her knowledge of any of that. that questioning has not happened. and that raises questions about giuliani statement and

and it is very interesting as chris wallace mentioned, i was thinking the same thing. they upset the apple cart, they being the trump administration with the aid of rudy giuliani. they upset the apple cart, who did they get? they got william taylor. they do not work very hard, it appears if that was her goal to find someone who was stronger, sort of proponent of the policies of the trump administration, which is just sort of making the whole thing look a little bit clumsy if that was their aim. the other thing that i thought was interesting is something that was also touched upon, which is that president zelensky also demonstrates that he was having a problem with her. and i would've liked to hear a little bit more questioning along those lines, why do you think he said is this about you? why do you think that he was concerned that you were an ally of pershing company and that you were not going to support his new government. i think that i was sort of a stone that was left unturned. i also think -- >> bret: there were a lot of them, martha. thinking 45 minutes. >> the

today on fox news sunday, host chris wallace asked bay area congressman eric swalwell about the democrat's choice to expedite the impeachment to donald trump. >> you guys say the president used his political powers -- used his office for his political benefit in what he was asking ukraine to do. aren't you in a sense doing the same thing, using your power on one of the most important things for your benefit? >> we have powerful evidence already. if the president thought these witnesses could clear him, he would allow them to come in. i think what's more relevant than how long we should wait in the courts is the fact that the president won't let them come in. only a guilty person would block people from coming to congress. >> first, the house intelligence committee will issue a report with its findings and recommendations. that report will then be sent to the judiciary committee and released to the public. then more hearings could be held. if judiciary panel decides impeachment is warranted, it would draft articles for a full- house vote. if the house impeaches, the senate would have the ch

and two, chris wallace is reporting that people inside the white house now want a senate trial because they want the president to have due process and they want to call in the whistleblower to testify, you just mentioned. they want adam schiff and they want muhunter biden to testify a trial. >> i would want adam schiff to testify, he said he didn't know the whistleblower, never met with the whistleblower. nancy pelosi announced they would launch a complaint before it was out there. did she talk to the whistleblower? there's a lot of background on this coming forward that i want to know about and the senate seems the only place where we may be able to hear any of that. i can see some logic of the white house wanting to get to the bottom of the entire story. ed: the last question, i put two in there, the first i said, do you think that the democrats are going forward with impeachment when you see the polls, a growing number of independent voters say i don't see this as impeachable offense. might the democrats walk back from the precipice? >> they might. look, they polled the word bribery

bret baier, chris wallace, and kim starr in d.c. good morning to all of you. will start with you first. we see the chairman adam schiff of the intelligence committee is seated. the hearing room is heating up and the hearing is underway. set up what we are about to watch together. >> first you're going to see the democrats lay out the case. he can see the boards on the republican side as they are going to have visuals as well. we just received the visuals from the democrats and it starts out by where is ukraine, a geographic lesson. who are the key players here so it's like conjunction juncture what your function to try to make sure everybody knows what is going on. then they will get into the text messages between these witnesses, the key thing for this hearing to be different is that a lot of the question will be by counsel. the democratic counsel is daniel goldman, former assistant attorney in manhattan has tried many mobsters, that is how they are making this case that it is a scheme sort of tied like a bribery extortion that you would see in a mob effort.

. >> sandra: let's bring in chris wallace anchor of "fox news sunday". good morning, chris.ot of time with you covering the hearings this week. a pleasure to do so. >> thank you. i was hoping you would say that. >> sandra: we're looking back at hours of testimony, hours of those public hearings, and what have you decided you saw and you heard this week, chris? >> i'm not playing that game. i'll tell you what i think the two sides decided. as far as the democrats are concerned i think they feel they built a conclusive case that the president did engage in a quid pro quo. that he did condition certainly a white house meeting, and arguably military aid in return for investigations of his political opponents. republicans listened to exactly the same hours of testimony and they i think split. some of them think that they brought up troubling evidence that the president did something he shouldn't have done. some don't think they even did that. but they all agree that whatever it is, the democrats supposedly were able to elicit it doesn't rise to the level of an impeachable crime.

you heard chris wallace say if you didn't feel for yovanovitch today, you don't have a pulse.resident did extraordinarily poor judgment. >> extraordinarily poor judgment. the president frequently says i follow my instincts. sometimes you need to control your instincts. i think this was quite injurious. >> quite injurious. >> i think what wallace said about how could you not empathize in some way with yovanovitch in that moment, the contrast between the president and the contact of a public servant like yovanovitch was so clearly laid bare in that moment. here you have somebody who has agreed to testify against all the threats we're talking about. it's not just right-wing media or what the president might tweet. just the whole republican ecosphere at this point. and words that were clearly intended to harass, to intimidate, whatever word you want to use. like it or not, these are public hearings, and they're public because the democrats hope they sway public opinion in some way. they are in some senses performative. and that sort of contrast is probably quite good for democrats

let's bring in fox news sunday anchor chris wallace. s, do you expect from what you are hearing there in washington that this will, in fact, end up with hearings in the house judiciary committee? >> well, i'm not sure whether there are going to be hearings or not. it is certainly going to go to the house judiciary committee. i guess they will have to have hearings because they would have to mark up articles of impeachment. >> whether or not they are going to have hearings and hear from witnesses is a diffedifferent matter. one thing that's out there john bolton the former national security advisor, he has a case in federal district court on december 10th, and he's basically saying to the judge, look, i have got an order from the white house not to appear. i have got an order from the house to appear. you decide separation of powers. and if the judge were to say no this is a house impeachment inquiry, that constitution. they take precedence. you can testify. i think there is a possibility that former national security advisor john bolton
