good morning, i'm chris wragge. >> and i'm chris wragge. >>> traffic and weather coming up on the 2s. >>> but first, the search will continue for a swimmer who went missing off the coast of sandy hook. sonia rincon has more. >> reporter: it will not be much longer until 6:00 when the search for the swimmer resumes. the group was struggling in the rough surf, and they all managed to get out, but the 25- year-old man was nowhere to be found. local first responders for monmouth county and the coast guard searched last night, and they will be back at it at 6:00. dangerous rip currents have kept life guards busy this summer, and on monday, four swimmers were recued at jacob riis park. two people died on long island over the weekend. at least one had been warned not to go back in after the life guards were offduty, and again, in many of the cases, the swimmers had been told to stay out of the water after the life guards were on duty, in this case they were on duty until 6:00, the life guards did come back to help in the search, and the effort was reportedly forming a human chain to help sea

i'm chris wragge. >> and i'm mary calvi. welcome to cbs 2 news this morning. >> first, breaking news. gunfire erupted at a brooklyn restaurant on flatbush avenue around 3:00 this morning. the male victim died of his injuries, and two others are wounded. >>> a man is accused of brutally beating and raping a woman, and ilana gold has more on the arrest. >> reporter: police say the suspect is kareem david. he will go before a judge today at brooklyn central federal court saying someone came his first. >> reporter: the confrontation with this match so lie lent, she ended up in the want to. now friends are outraged and are helping her recover. david approached the woman walking into a store and the 28- year-old threatened to her and demanded her to follow him. he gagged thing did and when they got to the outdoor staircase leading to the basement. david attacked her, push herd fingers down his throat and she has now lost her sense of security. >> it's scary because you can't see it from the road, and i'm sure you cant see anything

i'm chris wragge. >> and i'm mary calvi. >> first, we will go to breaking news in rahway, new jersey. >> reporter: is a quiet residential block that was met by a swarm of police activity overnight, and the prosecutors confirming, this is a homicide investigation. police said just before 11:00 last night a taxi cab slammed in front of a parked car. gunfire may have been involved, and this is a very quiet, residential block, and at this point it's not clear what the motive may have been, but the prosecutor's office right now investigating the case saying they will bin vest gaiting more today. janelle burrell, cbs 2 news. >> the search for a missing fishing boat is expected to resume this morning. yesterday helicopters and dive teams with the coast guard spent hours searching for the 40-foot fishing boat. the captain of another boat reported seeing the vessel sinking, and rescuers found a life ring and a cooler and floating oil in the area. no one has been reported missing, and they don't know if anyone was on board at the time

i'm chris wragge. john elliott with the forecast in a moment, but first the arrest of a suspect accused of raping a 7-year-old staten island girl. 32-year-old daniel nieto was taken into custody, and they said just before 3:00 a.m. on august 6th he entered a little girl's room through the back door and assaulted her. he was officially arrested on trespassing charges but was arrested before the alleged rape came to light, and now he is facing extradition back to staten island. >>> police many harlem are looking for a man caught on camera throwing a woman to the ground and robbing her. it was sunday, august 2nd. you can see him throw the 24- year-old woman to the ground and then he kicks and punches her. police say he took her purse and iphone and ran away. luckily the woman only sustained minor injuries. >>> senator schumer wants to share a historic moment with one lucky new yorker. senator schumer will have an online lottery for one new yorker to attend as his guest during the pope's visit. there's a f

i'm chris wragge. firefighters scrambled to put out a massive fire in plainfield, new jersey. it started in the attic of 640 east 2nd street overnight and quickly spread to two neighboring homes. about 8 # firefighters worked firelessly to keep the flames from spreading to other homes in the area. investigators say everyone was able to get out safely. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >>> developing in brooklyn today, police released surveillance video of a suspect in is an attempted rape. it happened at 74th street and 20th avenue in bensonhurst earlier this month. police say the man grabbed the 34-year-old woman from behind and tried to kiss her neck. she resisted and the suspect ran off. >>> mayor de blasio wants to clean up bad behavior in times square. the new task force will crack down on aggressive costumes charactered and painted ladies and pan land hers. -- panhandlers, he says the behavior is sometimes harassment. and officers will also be on the lookout to make sure the cha

i'm chris wragge. >> and -- >> reporter: the building behind me is where the fire started. there are a total of five buildings damaged and three buildings are attached to each other and two behind that building. the fire started around 3:00 3:30 a.m. this morning. four -- around 3:30 a.m. this morning. a family of four lived in the most damaged part. and the witnesses described seeing the mother and the two children pulled from the window. at least one of the children was pulled from the window and down the ladder by the firefighters and others pulled out the front door and they say it was a terrifying scene. >> the whole right side of the building was just torched. >> the whole roof was on fire. and the people upstairs, it was too much. they couldn't get out. and two kids passed out and one got burned in the forehead. >> reporter: a total of six people are hurt. the family of four, the mother, the father, the two little girls and two firefighters who have been treat for the minor injuries. a total of 32 people are out of their homes from the damaged buildings and 16 of the
