"abc 7 news" reporter chris wynn looked into the technology born on the peninsula. >> reporter: waiting to get your vehicle registration tags in the mail can be stressful, but in california a new pilot program aims to change that. >> it is the newest technology. every time in the bay area there's a new technology, everybody wants to jump up on it. it is as simple as that. >> reporter: retailers like ss customs in redwood city say more people are asking for the r plate, a digital license plate that can do more than just display the large letters and numbers you see. using similar technology behind kindle reader system, customers can display amber alerts, pay tolls and report their vehicle as stolen. it comes with a hefty price, nearly $750 a plate. reviver auto says it can also display advertisements while parked. the very can be tracked, which they believe is great for businesses who want to incorporate the plates into their fleet. company officials had to cancel our interview due to a scheduling conflict. as for privacy concerns, the company says they never share data with the dmv, law
