abc's christian fisher has the latest from washington. >> reporter: baghdad on brink. a series of explosion killed 15 people on sunday and 60 miles away feelers islamic jihaddists. yesterday the state department announced plans to evacuate the american embassy in being. the pentagon is sending in a hundred troops including a platoon of marines to protect those that stay behind. they posted gruesome photos of killing 200 iraqi soldiers. all this as president obama continues to weigh possible military action despite a loss of faith in iraq's leadership. >> any direct military action by the united states needs to be done when we see that the iraqi government has pulled itself together politically. >> reporter: the iraqi government is calling for new recruits. many republicans argue that they need help now to protect the city that so many americans died fighting for lish -- liberate. >> my son died in fallujah, he believed what he feels doing, i want to count tore something, what i am seeing today makes me sick. i don't want to have to question that. >> reporter: three war

>> abc's christian fisher live from the white house. good morning, kristen. >> reporter: the u.s. military is going to do something. but after nearly nine years of war and sacrifice in iraq, one option not on the able is putting more u.s. troops back on the ground. this cell phone video shot yesterday, appears to show islamic extremists, through mosul, and vehicles seized from iraqi soldiers. the soldiers have been trying to stop the militants as they storm through city aftercy towards baghdad. as this youtube video shows, iraqi troops are losing. thousands of iraqi soldiers are seen here surrendering to the militants, with links to al qaeda. iraq's government is begging the u.s. to step in. yesterday, a caution president obama said help is on the way. >> my team is working around the clock to identify how we can provide the most effective assistance to them. >> reporter: the white house is now weighing a range of short-term military options, including air strikes. but putting american troops back on the ground isn't one of them. instead, the president is calling on the internatio
