. >> reporter: christian vargas as looking at the damage today more than 4,000 plants, destroyed. in the back of the garden which is part a state park heavy tables were own testified. >> somebody just to come down here and destroy everything that we have been working for for so long just hurts. >> reporter: members of the organization that runs the garden started the long process of cleaning up. >> all the plants have fallen out of their containers, they are drying up. you know we will be lucky if we can save half of what was here and it's a huge loss. >> reporter: with just a little more than a week ago more than 150 volunteers came to help spruce up the community garden in the bayview district. it was parts of a project to get it ready for earth day which was that past sun. the vandals happened the night of earth day. this man said he has been planting vegetations for more than a decade. . >> we spent a lot of money to support the garden and pay a yearly fee for this stuff and the kids come down and destroy it. it's bad for the neighborhood. >> reporter: tomorrow high school stu
