i want to welcome cnn's international correspondent, christiane amanpour. christiane, i did not expect that this would be the kind of proof that we would see that isis was still holding this hostage. the jordanians have been asking for proof of life. to our knowledge, they never got it. and now this. what do you think the reaction worldwide is going to be to this? >> reporter: worldwide revulsion, for sure. what is the reaction going to be in jordan? beyond immense grief and anger over what turned out to be the last several weeks and months, depicting moaz al kasasbeh as a national hero, somebody who actually had to be brought back. as you know, the jordanian royal family which rules the country has been under immense pressure. on the one hand, a very staunch u.s. and western ally in the fight against isis, a victim of terror over the years and therefore committed to fighting this in its backyard. and on the other hand, pressured very heavily from parts of its country, not the whole country, but certainly in areas of the country particularly in the south whi

christiane amanpour let's talk about what jordan presumably will be doing right now. the king, king abdullah, is here in washington. the foreign minister is here in washington. i assume they're both anxious to get back to jordan and take charge. >> well absolutely because this is a major test as we all know and we've all been saying. jordan has stood squarely with the united states and the western coalition against terrorism and particularly against isis. the test now for the king is will he make a national speech will he make a national address, to try to convince his people that it's more dangerous not to take them on than it is to take them on? if he doesn't take them on they will come into jordan's backyard. if you look around on the isis websites and all the rest of it and listen to their designs, they have designs on jordan. al qaeda has already, as we remember 2005 done a huge attack inside jordan. that woman, sajida was part of it. they killed more than 60 people at three hotels. so they have a lot of experience with terrorism. they know the terrible destabili

christiane amanpour probably most eloquently defined isis as what has effectively now just become a death cult. there's little to do with islam, clearly they burned a man alive, it goes against every tenet of islam. how does one fight a death cult if you're just talking about ideologically? what mechanisms? >> well, you talk about on the political front about opening the political systems, giving people a voice in the systems economically. you have to look at the economic policies and revisit these policies in the direction of providing jobs for people and addressing the underlying causes that are causing some of the -- >> surely -- sorry to interrupt. i'm hearing what sounds like a diplomatic response. they're talking about earth-shaking revenge. there's a dichotomy between earth-shaking revenge and any kind of diplomacy. are you talking about diplomacy? >> not at all. i'm not talking about reaching out to isis. this is a group with which no compromise is possible. i'm talking about developing a counter ideology inside your own country and around the region that is more inclusive and mor

let's bring in cnn's chief international correspondent, christiane amanpour. christiane, the best hope here is that this is a tipping point. do you think it could be? and if so what would that mean? >> well you know it's interesting, i know a lot of people are looking at that. obviously clearly what isis is trying to do 0 is both have this extreme sort of public relations offensive. what it's trying to do is get more recruits and it's trying to get the members of the coalition to stop being members of the coalition. jordan has said categorically that it will remain in the coalition and step up its actions against isis. the father of this this pilot who has been so savagely killed has said that he wants jordan to annihilate that's the word he used to a nilennihilate isis. and the grand imam at a mosque in egypt says the terrorists should be crucified, killed. so there is from those area as strong push-back against what isis has done. >> we have heard from analysts who say that even ultraradicals, even al qaeda or isis sympathizers have said that this brutality
