christie smith joins us live from lafayette. >> reporter: well, cal tranhas certainly been keeping anye on the traffic on highway 24 that's going on because of the bart work. bart has been keeping an eye on that traffic, too. and today at one point the traffic stacked up a little bit more than they wanted to so they changed the lane closures from two lanes down to one. now riders were told what to expect. that includes delays up to 40 minutes. but some say they were just learning about it. it was slow going on highway 24 to get past lane closures near the lafayette bart station. >> all the traffic was stopped behind me, and there was two trucks, you know, cranes in the middle of the road. >> reporter: the two left lanes were closed for a 265-ton crane for bart to replace train tracks. cal trans was able to monitor roads from their traffic management center in oakland. they aim to keep traffic delays under 30 minutes, but the backup grefrmt. >> it did actually reach the threshold where we have asked bart to condense the two-lane closure that we have on highway 24 down to just one. >> r
