lee in september was the whole point of the exercise. chris christie's deputy chief of staff sent this e-mail "time for some traffic problems in ft. lee." to which that fore mentioned ex-port authority official said got it. it's the guy who said "got it" and seemed to spend the next few weeks orchestrating how to create the traffic problems in ft. lee. it's the "got it" guy who today alleged in a letter from his lawyer that governor chris christie, himself, knew about this. knew about the lanes being shut down. and here's what's important about that. for governor christie. governor christie is already in trouble, at least it looks like he's already in trouble for what he has said publicly about this scheme. the scheme to use the george washington bridge as a way to punish this town of ft. lee. it was wednesday, january 8th, when the e-mails and text messages were first published that showed that the order to hurt ft. lee by shutting down those lanes had come from governor christie's office, had come from his deputy chief of staff. that was also the day w

lee" to a chris christie ally at the port authority who then does appear to have arranged for some huge traffic problems in ft. lee last september by shutting down that community's access lanes to the world's busiest bridge. the george washington bridge. once those bridge lanes in ft. lee were shut down, it appears also to have been bridget kelly who exchanged these text messages with that same person at the port authority who arranged the shutdown. upon hearing that kids cannot get to school because the lanes being shut down and the town's mayor is complaining about that, miss kelly apparently replies by text, "is it wrong that i'm smiling?" david wildstein at the port authority responds "no" to which bridget kelly responds "i feel badly about the kids" then one minute later "i guess." to which david wildstein responds "they are the children of buono voters." meaning don't feel bad, their parents are going to vote democratic. david wildstein has already pleaded the fifth. in testimony before the new jersey legislature related to this scandal. now the other person in that text message c

lee and why did we get these documents in the first place? >> they're in response to governor christie'sncil who is doing an internal review in regards to the lane closures, but also asked for documents from ft. lee and hoboken as part of his review. ft. lee chose to respond by saying these documents are media requests for documents from ft. lee and certain communications that are relevant to the bridge closures and phone logs. >> requests from governor christie's attorney, he asked to meet with hoboken mayor don zimmer, they said no. asked to meet with ft. lee mayor mark sockeledge they said no. very specifically, a huge amount of this -- it's interesting that governor christie's attorney wanted ft. lee's records of them talking to the media, i'm not sure how that was germane to the investigation. >> democrats have raised questions about how this is part of their internal review. the internal review is to interview members of the christie administration about their own knowledge of this going on during when the lane closures were happening and afterwards, but he's broadened that review.

in this case if, in fact, they show david wildstein was aboard the helicopter with christie during the days of the ft. lee bridge closures. how worried should christie camp be? >> they're very worried about wildstein in journal. th wildstein is clearly looking for immunity. he's said it himself before. he's looking for some sort of protection in this so he's not held criminally responsible or perhaps he's worried about civilian lawsuits. he's clearly nervous and looking for some immunity. when you get to a point of survival, whether everything is about personal survival, you're seeing that the governor's office is acting like they're doing everything they can to protect the governor and see if they can survive being governor now. that can explain why they lashed out in an irresponsible way with high school things, which makes them look small and petty. then five days later, they're saying christie didn't have anything to do with this. look, i think it's clear that christie folks are concerned about the people that the governor was pretty rough on in that initial press conference. one of them was wildstein

a month-long traffic study was known to the christie appointees, the union chief and the same port authority police officer chip michaels who told the ft. lee chief of police that day that the jam-up was going to last a month. every day we're learning that more and more people knew about this plot, including key people in christie's own office. everyone we are to believe, i suppose, but the man in whose name they were doing all this. from the port authority to the governor's office people knew no one was to take a phone call from the ft. lee mayor. they were to maintain radio silence for as long as the traffic jam-up lasted. that could be a month. there were several traffic accidents caused by this bridge scheme, delays of emergency vehicles, and at least four cases where ambulances were held up, all for the purpose of putting some punishing squeeze apparently on the mayor of ft. lee, a squeeze that lasted only four full days, but was planned as we know now to go four weeks. if that's what it took for the man in ft. lee to get whatever message was being sent. you have to wonder about the basic iq of the people involved. they were going to c

lee lane closures with his own refusal to endorse christie for governor. the most persistent unanswered question, what was the motivation behind the infamous "time for traffic problems in ft. lee" e-mail? the most popular theory was it was retribution for his refusal to endorse christie for governor. mayor sokolich, himself, appeared to poke holes in the teary from the start when he said christie didn't ask for his endorsement. >> i don't recall a specific request to endorse, but, you know, the events that led up to all of this, i guess you can interpret to be somehow attracting me to endorse. >> today sokolich is sharing more details about the events he once guessed you could interpret to somehow be attracting him to endorse christie telling the bergen record, christie administration waged an extensive campaign for his endorsement including gifts from the port authority. the "record" reporting, quote, when sokolich did not comply but accepted gifts which included shuttle buses, snow plowing, fill potholes and emergency radios, he says he now feels he was p

need is somebody saying that christie was involved in either the planning or knew of it during and cheered it on. if wildstein simply said hey, there's a big traffic jam in ft. lee and christie's going to say i was in the middle of a campaign, i was doing a million things. i don't recall that. but they're going to need to prove that christie knew. if they really want to get to christie, that he knew in advance. that's why christie, like i said, is setting the bar low. i think they should be going after christie's participation in the cover-up, which went for four months until he was caught red-handed, christie kept putting this line out that it was an actual study. and what he was trying to do, he needed six more days to get to the end of the legislative session when the committee's subpoena power ended. and those e-mails, if it hadn't been for those e-mails, that committee probably would not have gotten its subpoena power and the whole thing would have ended on january 14th. so he was trying to run out the clock when he should have done his apology tour the minute he learned how bad this was. >> there you go. thank you, paul. >> thanks. >>> later in office poli
