christie smith has the details. what happened here, christie? >> reporter: that's right. when you see the shape of this car, it's pretty amazing that anyone survived. it went off the road and tumbled down maybe 250 feet, possibly more, right in the area of fish ranch road before noon today. the small suv was finally pulled back up late this afternoon. it actually landed on its roof. a number of agencies we're told responded to help and we have calls in to oakland fire. but two minors were involved here, a male and a female. but it was very difficult to get them up and out. both survived, again, with what are considered moderate to minor injuries. one of them was air lifted out when the car went off the road here. there's a sharp turn and a lot of bicycles but we're still awaiting word on what might have caused them to go off the road. i can tell you, though, that we don't see any skid marks on the area. we know they were traveling southbound. reporting live in oakland, christie smith, nbc bay area news. >> christie, thank you very much. >>> developing news near sacramento

christie smith is live with more. this has to be awfully scary for the homeowner. >> reporter: absolutely. they woke up to a man kicking in the door. dogs barking, calling the police didn't work. he may have picked the wrong home. recovering after a frightening ordeal overnight. someone tried to break into his pacifica home. >> calling the cops. then he began to kick the door. he busted through two dead bolt locks. >> reporter: this is the door now. the man didn't say anything, just had an odd smile on the face. he's an e.r. nurse and former law enforcement. >> i was able to remove him from the house to where he was able to kick me in the face, breaking my nose. i was able to wrestle him to the ground. >> police response was quick. it always feels like forever. it was quick and they were able to apprehend. >> reporter: the police arrested 29-year-old trevor johnson who they call a local transient who was under the influence. >> most people go about their business when they know the homeowner is there. >> reporter: the

christie smith continues the breaking coverage from city hall. what's the reaction there at this hour? >> reporter: raj, i can tell you that a small group has gathered in front of the san francisco city hall. you can see them there in the distance. some of them speaking with reporters. they're talking about the announcement for mayor ed lee and how he stood by him. not everyone is pleased. they also wanted more of a say in who would replace him, at least in the interim. tony chaplain will be the acting chief. he has served in the department for 26 years. the activists here have been calling for suhr's resignation. there have been a number of high-profile police shootings. here's what one activist had to say. >> it's a horrible disaster. the text scandal, the homophobic comments, that he sat on. we can't just move someone up and put him in his place. we want a short list of the possible candidates which probably need to come outside the community. >> reporter: now, i also saw at least one san francisco supervisor out there speaking a little bit wi

. >> christie smith is live tonight. what do owe know about this? >> reporter: well, i can tell you, i spoke briefly tonight with a family friend and keith green's mother. they both new of the arrest. the sheriff's department is not commenting on this. i spoke with a couple neighbor who is say they heard the police activity at this home here in hillsborough. it started around 3:30 in the morning, what they describe as a raid on the home that woke them up. this week, deputies announced 27-year-old keith green who had been missing was a homicide victim. a woman, described as his sex i now in jail. deputies have not confirmed who may have been taken into du custody, but the neighbors describe the commotion. >> i woke up, my husband woke up. police cars were surrounding their home. there were police officers in my yard. they had a loud speaker. they were first speaking in english, then they switched. i think it was mandarin. they were asking for the female suspect come out. >> reporter: she called the whole experience very upsetting. we spoke with anoth

. >> nbc's bay area christie smith is live in the neighborhood. >> yeah, that's right, it is much quieter hostile bees sending neighbors run for cover. people could not stand outside. we see some bees flying around. i want to show you some videos of how it looked yesterday. police tell us they were told that the hives was removed along with most of bees according to a homeowner. that usual aggressive swarm possibly, honey bees or killer bees moved in. eight to ten people were stunned and two were treated at the hospital and released. people are advised to stay inside. these types of bees were discovered in the bay area at 2014. we spoke with the professional beekeeper from the honey bees. >> great beekeeper. we keep bees for seven years. >> there were reports of two small dogs, a neighbor's dog died possibly due to bee stings. testings will determine what type of bees these are. concord police say today it is okay to be in the area but you want to use caution in the heat of the day. there are still some bees flying around. the removal process continues tonight. christie smith, nbc bay are

christie smith live in san francisco with more on that. >> reporter: we spoke with an aunt who says she is doing everything she can to keep this little girl's picture out there trying to remind people that a family here in the bay area is still looking for the 2-year-old girl they describe as friendly, curious and intelligent and fun to be around. this has been an absolutely heartbreaking time for the family. the little girl's mother's body was found last month. san francisco police are getting assistance from the fbi. the family just want the little girl home. they launched a facebook page and are still circulating flyers. this mother was last seen april 1. her sister believes someone may be taking care of the little girl but they want her safe back home. >> i keep thinking of things i can do to try to figure out where she is. so many times i feel so helpless because i just can't think of anything else i can do. i have been putting up flyers. i have been asking people to share and repost on facebook her picture. so many people have. >> reporter: the search warrants have been served in

nbc bay area christie smith is at city hall. what is the latest from where you are and at the hospital? >> reporter: raj, right now supporters of the frisco five as they're called are inside city hall in front of mayor ed lee's office. the door is shut. they're talking about the hunger strikers and a familiar message and that is what they've been talking about all along. they want police chief to resign or be fired. they're talking about accountability. there were prayers and serious concern now, they say, for the health of the frisco five as they were taken to the hospital today. deputies blocked any access to the door to the mayor's office. the supporters arrived late this afternoon to city hall with drum sticks and whistles. the five activists called on the mayor to fire the chief following repeated police shootings. the mayor says he would standby the chief and talked about reform. today, one supporter said the mayor really needs to hear them. >> it is upsetting. it is frustrating, and he needs to do something. he needs to d

nbc bay area's christie smith is at dartmouth middle school in south san jose with that story. christie. >> reporter: yeah, terry, they actually had to wrap up this fund-raiser a little bit earlier than expected. and that is because of that strong wind that moved through, tossing canopies around like toys. in fact, we're told that two people did suffer minor injuries in this. now, we do have some video shared with us by one of the participants of that wind and dust that swept through before 3:00 this afternoon. they also shared photos of the aftermath as people took cover and they saw tents and canopies thrown around that were actually tied down. this is at the american cancer society's relay for life that brought out hundreds of people to dartmouth middle school. volunteers say the fund-raiser was going really well until that wind moved through this afternoon. firefighters were called out and were told to help two people. volunteers say, though, that both were conscious. they were checked out and the injuries were minor. but that sudden gust not ha anyone expected. >> there's a

live in san francisco, christie smith, nbc bay area news. >> thank you. >>> we have new details in the killing of a well known san francisco defense attorney. an arrest has been made in the case. 19-year-old angela is in custody at san francisco general hospital. she's considered to be the only suspect in yesterday's deadly stabbing of marla, who was found dead in her home. this is marla's nephew, a long-time public attorney. >>> a man crashed into a chp officer in sacramento. nbc bay areas marianne favro has more. >> reporter: he is accused of hitting the chp officer. that officer is now hospitalized with major injuries. this is what remains of the chp officers patrol vehicle after it was struck in south sacramento by this fedex truck. the fedex driver, a 41-year-old is now behind bars, charged with driving under the influence, causing injury and possession of a controlled substance. chp officers say he hit an officer on foot trying to clear the scene of a hit and run accident that happened earlier on highway 50 near 15th street in sacramento. >> a fedex truck in the slower lane struc
