christie smith is there live who is awaiting an update from the police. what do we know about the shootings, especially the one from this morning, christie? >> well, the san jose police have not commented on a motive, and they say that it all started this morning with a report of a man with a gun that was near a strip mall by a store. now, san jose police are saying that it is when they their officers arrer rived on scene, he fired in their direction and at least one officer fired back, and police say that no one was injured, but the man took off runni running, and jumped the fence into a nearby mobile home park. he was taken town custody. it happened on tulley road near quimby which was blocked much of the day. one neighbor said that the man apparently gave more than one address after he was the detained. >> it was after they caught him, i believe, they came over about six or seven of them and they said, does he live here? and i said, well, no. >> reporter: this is following two other officer-involved shootings in san jose this week under different circum

bay area's christie smith has the latest from antioch. christie? >> well, terry, the recovery effort was happening for much of the day on the east side of the bridge, and the sacramento county sheriff's department says that the man jumped off an anchored boat, and tried to retrieve his hat, and never resurfaced or came up. and now, the marine detail, and the helicopters from the coast guard never recovered anything, and today, they were using sonar scans. the police say he is a 55-year-old man from antioch. and the coast guard did join local authorities to help promote boating safety and enforcement as the season kicks off to remind the boaters about the critical importance of the rules surrounding matters of life jackets and flotation devices. we spoke to the harbor master who also offered some additional tips for boertaters. >> you need to ask some questions at the local marina, and local knowledge and you need to spend some time to look at a chart to determine the sand bars and where they r and you need to know if you break down, who do you call

christie smith is live in antioch and law enforcement and everybody trying to promote boating safety. >> reporter: that is right. and i got off the phone with the coast guard and they say the search was suspended earlier today. the sheriff's department out of sacramento county is saying this man was not located and now with the boating season underway, for many the conversation is turning to boating safety. near the antioch bridge, the coast guard said the search was suspended this afternoon. the sacramento sheriff's department said there was a sonar recovery mission today, one day after an antioch mission jumped off his boat to retrieve a hat and didn't resurface. a sheriff's spokesperson said he was not wearing a life jacket. >> memorial day weekend means it is start of the boating season. >> reporter: this is the harbor master near the bridge in oakland and with the holiday weekend here he is stressing the importance of life jackets and following boating rules. >> to have a life jacket on board for everybody and the right size for those people on board. he needs to have a throwable
