christy smith joins us live with the details. >> reporter: the chp tells us tonight they're still trying to figure out why the crash happened. a wrong way driver first spotted up the road from here. two people have died, a man and woman, and one was ejected from the car. the deadly crash closed northbound lanes of highway 1 in pacifica for hours. the chp received reports overnight about a prius. >> last seen heading southbound in the northbound lane of highway 1. >> reporter: the chp said it's unclear where the driver got on, but just before clarnden road, chp said the prius collided with a chef pickup truck. >> there were two passengers of the toyota prius that dyied on scene. >> he says the two people in the pickup were injured. investigators are looking at what led up to the crash and whether drugs or alcohol played a role. >> any time we hear drivers going the wrong way on the highway -- >> reporter: just last week that investigated another wrong way driver on 101. >> definitely there's been a few accidents. >> reporter: she works in pacifica and this latest crash has her stunned and

more on that, here's nbc bay area's christy smith. >> reporter: we haven't seen the rain in an hour or so, but it certainly is windy and cold out here and some choppy water out there in the of rain and trouble spots in the bay area, but some residents told us they were relieved they got a bit of a break today. in sonoma county, the highway was closed. just pass the season, the reason was clear. it flooded in the heavy rain that fell overnight. the flood prone area flooded again. a new bicyclists tried to make their way through. >> i was expecting much worse than this with the weather, but now we got through the flooding and that was a surprise. >> reporter: not to the neighbors used to the detours when this happens. the rain also led to slick roads and some close yours. the oakland zoo and ferry land posted they were closed due to the wester. extra trees crews were brought in, but only had a handful of reports trees were down. the break in the rain midday was certainly a welcome sight at ocean beach. some say that they feared the storm would keep up its pace all day. >> i'm liking it r
