christy smith joins us live from city hall where pedestrian safely will be front and center. anything new on the investigation? >> reporter: well, terry, police haven't really released much on the circumstances of the collision. but thdo did stop and is cooperating. in the meantime, the supervisor is saying he believes that more walking safer. now, this is video that was posted on theed lastalking. a 79-year-old died at the scene. police say they don't think drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash and the supervisor did post to twitter saying she was hit by a taxi, adding in part that we are devastated and furious. another person was hit and killed in the bay area last month and yet another at taylor and ofarrell. he says the area does need improvement. >> in this particular area, it can be very dark at nighttime. for drivers it is hard to see people in this area. we can think of different ways of increasingwe c narrow lanes things to really slow down the traffic. >> reporter: now, he had pushed for a state of emergency around traffic safet according to the group, walk sa

christy smith joins us live. >> reporter: the woman was attacked right by the door to her building, which is that one that you see right there. now, a navigation center for the homeless is planned right next door to that building behind the fence that you see. and opponents are saying that there are clear public safety concerns. they would like the city to stop construction on the navigation center. she was grabbed by a man when she tried to get inside her building last week, and that attack was caught on security tape. she points to what she sees as a drug and mental illness problem in the city and joined the group which has been opposed to the navigation center, and they filed a lawsuit over it. today pointed to other recent incidents of crime across the neighborhood. >> please take action. don't build this year. you don't have the capability to properly manage it. >> given the city's inability to keep the people safe from the effects of the shelter even before construction is finished, we're calling on the city to halt the project until a court decides. >> one homeless advocate certain

christie smith joins us live from lafayette. >> reporter: well, cal tranhas certainly been keeping anye on the traffic on highway 24 that's going on because of the bart work. bart has been keeping an eye on that traffic, too. and today at one point the traffic stacked up a little bit more than they wanted to so they changed the lane closures from two lanes down to one. now riders were told what to expect. that includes delays up to 40 minutes. but some say they were just learning about it. it was slow going on highway 24 to get past lane closures near the lafayette bart station. >> all the traffic was stopped behind me, and there was two trucks, you know, cranes in the middle of the road. >> reporter: the two left lanes were closed for a 265-ton crane for bart to replace train tracks. cal trans was able to monitor roads from their traffic management center in oakland. they aim to keep traffic delays under 30 minutes, but the backup grefrmt. >> it did actually reach the threshold where we have asked bart to condense the two-lane closure that we have on highway 24 down to just one. >> r

christie smith, nbc bay area news. >>> the warm weekend conditions will keep firefighters on high alert. meteorologist rob mayeda is tracking those changes for us >> it's the east bay hills, we're seeing temperatures in the 90s. the fog reducing fire danger at the coast and inner bay. but let's take a look at the diablo range and santa cruz mountains. this is typically the driest type of year when it comes to what's available to burn on those hillsides. it's slightly above average and a little below the maximum dryness that we can see for this time of year. you couple that with temperatures hot as the upper 90s earlier. 39 near clayton. humidity levels 29%. it's still pretty dry. and look how the temperatures continue to stay warm all the way through 11:00 tonight. we'll see 70 degree temperatures in the hills. not a lot of wind right now. that is the one component to watch as we wrap up the weekend. we're going to see some cooling, but the wind speeds could be picking up. we'll talk more about the cool down on the way and the full wind speeds in the forecast in about ten minutes. >>> a
