ktvu's christien kafton, also live in napa with the latest details. >> reporter: we're expecting a news conference to start at about 1:00 letting us know when the napa schools will be reopening. now about an hour and a half ago, we had the opportunity to go inside napa high school and survey some of the damage there. inspectors are going around that school around seeing if they are structurally sound. we saw a lot of notices on doors about ceiling floors that had fallen and the textbooks on the floor where they fell. the school district says class could resume tomorrow or on a school by school and even a classroom by classroom basis. >> we're still doing the evaluations. so we don't -- i don't want to be premature in anything. but so far so good. we're just like everybody else. we have a lot of mess. there's a lot of things on the ground. there's a lot of books around. there's broken glass. >> reporter: the boys and girls club of napa valley opened its doors. the program's director tells me they had their building inspected yesterday. it checked out. so they opened their doors and are s

christien kafton looking into the cleanup efforts at the wineries throughout the region and why thist the tourism industry. first, let's stat with tara moriarty checking in on those displaced by the earthquake are faring with the red cross shelters. >> reporter: we're here at the red cross shelter. it's at the crosswalk community church on first street. there are about eight people inside. one of them has a little baby with them and we understand that nearly 250 people came through here yesterday wanting some help after this quake. joining me live is lee baker cohen. i understand that you guys, less than six hours after the quake struck, you were open for business. >> yeah, it was about 9:00 or so. we have red cross people in every community. that's happened yesterday. the folks who are local got what they needed to get done at their homes. it was to give people a place to go that was safe. >> reporter: how are they doing? were they rattled? what was the mood like? >> people were very rattled to varying degrees. people had varying degrees of damage. some people completely lost their

christien kafton is live in napa now to tell us how some of the winery damage could effect the area'sorter: business owners are still cleaning up after that big quake. emergency workers are asking visitors to stay out of the downtown area while that cleanup is under way. you can see why again. you can see the damage to the facade of the hotel and the debris that is still on the ground. if you take a look here, you can see the front of the hotel is is closed to pedestrian traffic. but tourism is still a big business in napa county and businesses are encouraging people to visit as much as possible. wineries in the area are also cleaning up. bottles fell to the floor and broke but the tasting room is open at the pearl restaurant here in napa. >> one thing we've been really lucky is the power came back. >> oh my gosh. >> the power came back on which is such a release. >> we are looking to talk to businesses today. tourism officials here in napa are saying even if there is damage to the downtown napa area. we have watched as that garbage truck has loaded debris in. and cherry picker here s

live, christien kafton, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a fire at a church in san francisco. firefighters battled the fire from the roof just a short time ago. it started in the attic of the church near 20th around 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. a pastor gave us this smart phone video. a construction crew was working on the roof when the fire broke out. everyone made it down safely. firefighters are now cleaning up and surveying the damage.
