in san francisco, christien kafton, ktvu, fox two news. n. at 730, a 15 year old was killed in a crash in walnut creek early sunday morning. police say the car,ith five people inside, was headed west on newell avenue when it crashed into a pillar under 680 around 230 in the morning. the 15 year old passenger was killed. three other people in the car fled,ncding the driver. they were picke up by a relative who ok them to a hospital inan jose. that hospital then contacted police. the juvenile driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. police in san francisco say the number of homicides in the city this year has dropped to a number not seen in decades. sfpd says there have been 34 homicides in san francisco in 2024. that's down from 51 a year ago and is reportedly the lowest number since 1960. the police department says its homicide unit has a 9,094% clearance rate, in addition to homicides and violent crime, the department says every category of crime has seen a decrease in the past year, including organized retail theft and ca

and as ktvu christien kafton reports tonight, police body cam video does show the very moments leading the gunfire. >> mr. hodge then raised his right hand with the firearm in it as he pivoted towards the officers standing in the street. mr. hodge quickly took a shooting stance with his feet shoulder width apart, two hands on the handgun slightly bent forward while pointing at the officers in the street. officers number one, three and four, and sergeants one, two and three discharged their firearms at mr. hodge, who then fell to the ground. >> san francisco police say the shooting was the ending of a violent final day for 50 year old peter hodge. they say at 630 on the evening of december 19th, hodge was behind the wheel of a black suv illegally outfitted with police style lights as it pursued a person on an e-bike onto the sidewalk of sutter street, where he plowed into two women, sending them to the hospital. moments later, police say he struck the e-bike rider who took off on foot. police identified hodge as the man behind the wheel and just hours later, at 135 the morning of decemb

i'm christien kafton. the santa cruz county sheriff's office says one man died today at sunset state beach after a large wave trapped him beneath debris. the man was pronounced dead at a hospital. today's powerful waves also caused part of the santa cruz wharf to collapse into the ocean. three people who were on that pier had to be rescued from the water. first responders rescuing all three. but they are now being evaluated at a nearby hospital. three teens fishing on santa cruz wharf watched as a 150 50 foot section of the pier collapsed into the ocean. >> we noticed that the pier was swaying a lot and it was. we heard a lot of cracking, but we didn't think much of it. and then all of a sudden it literally it all fell into the water and like there was people on it as well. a lot of construction workers, they were on the pier and it fell into the water and it sounded like thunder. >> santa cruz city officials say three people were checking that section of the wharf because it was undergoing a $4 million re

in san francisco, christien kafton, ktvu, fox two news. >> new. at 730 tonight, the san mateo county board of supervisors approved a new yearlong pilot program aimed at helping domestic violence survivors leave their abusers. the supervisors approved $348,000 for a guaranteed income program for domestic violence survivors. it will provide $1,000 monthly payments to 20 eligible individuals, no strings attached. the community overcoming relationship abuse, also known as cora, will operate the program through june of 2026. officials say financial stability is among the greatest reasons that victims of abuse feel trapped and trapped into staying. the first payments are expected to roll out next month. school district leaders in san francisco are set to discuss a plan to close that district's massive budget deficit, which could lead to layoffs. that meeting started just about an hour ago, and public comment is underway. the district's new superintendent is looking to make about $113 million in cuts, and she has previously suggested encouraging senior e
