now, christina, you used to forecast in florida. this means you know tropical storms and hurricanes very well. >> yes, indeed, marla. we just received that advisory just five minutes ago. what i can tell you is the storm has not intensified at this point, 65-mile-per-hour winds. those are the max right now. and we wanted to show you the overall size of this massive system. when we talk about a landfall, we talk about when the actual eye of the hurricane moves onshore. now, right now, the projected path and intensity takes that hurricane weak category 1 into the new orleans area as we head through late tomorrow into early wednesday. now, there's a lot of uncertainty in terms of the projected path and intensity because we don't have any shearing winds, we don't have anything to push this hurricane out of the way. so we could be talking about hurricane conditions in new orleans for 24 hours plus. there's stale lot to talk about when it comes to this massive storm, even though when we were talking about katrina, it came onshore as a str

let's check back in with christina loren. how is it looking out there? >> it's looking good now that you're back on the desk, mr. kelly. if you're getting your kids out the front door, dress them for two parts of the day. it will be hot inland today, but if you still have those kids home with you for summer, take them to the beach. what a treat today at the beach. we see mostly clear conditions. the only caveat is a little bit of a breeze. that will pick up as we head throughout the afternoon but you get abund ant sunshine even at the city by the bay today. it's crystal clear in san jose, and we start out comfortably at 58 degrees. through the next 48 hours you have two competing systems, an area of high pressure to the south mostly impacting the pacific northwest. there's a strong onshore flow and that keeps temperatures from soaring and keep that big ridge of high pressure in economic. gusty at the coast today and peak heating tomorrow and we look at it a couple of degrees from today's highs. it works out like this in your city 72 in san francisco and

christina loren is filling us in. it's thursday. what's happening?>> another beautiful day all across the bay area. the only caveat is we do have thick low clouds and reduced visibility. we're getting back into our foggy season in the bay area. i want to start as far east as we possibly can go, that is sun sunol. the marine layer, filling in your inland valley. we're going to lose the cloud cover in the east bay and in the south bay by about 8:00 or 9:00 with windspicking you. this is a gray start here and just about a half hour we're going to close this gap. then the sun will break through the clouds so. temperatures comfortable, in the defendants, a little on the cool side with low 50s. 61 in sunnyvale. 56 in san jose. it works like this. an area of low pressure came through right on its heels, a cold front. that is working against an amplifying ridge. the two systems work against each other and that is what generates the strong winds. we'll see gustier conditions than yesterday, especially in the area that lacks friction. it's going to get interes

let's check in with meteorologist christina loren. last couple of days we started out with fog. >> the fog is thicker this morning. good morning. good morning to you right at home. maybe you're comfortable under the covers this morning. well, it's definitely cooler out there, that cooler weather makes it harder to wake up and get going. but what i can tell you is this afternoon because we're starting out cool with a thick layer of fog it will be phenomenal. 77 degrees is the forecasted high today down in san jose and starting out nice and grip every where. 56 in concord, 56 in oakland and 40s back on the map up in wine country. 48 degrees in novato and santa rosa. we'll lose that fog and drizzle at about 10:00 in the east and south bay regions. take until about noon maybe 1:00 right at the coast and over the bay. three to five degrees cooler today than yesterday and temps warm right back up as we head into next week. another heat wave on the way. enjoy 77 degrees at san jose while it last, 83 in concord, 64 degrees in san francisco. w

we'll check in with christina in a moment. it is 4:44. >> samsung has not infringed on an apple patent, that is the ruling from a tokyo court. it is the latest development in the ongoing global legal battle between the two tech titans. you may remember last week a san jose jury ruled certain samsung smart phones violated apple patents. the jury in that case awarded apple more than $1 billion in damages. >> after being grilled over policy of rounding up the total on customer bills this morning mexican chain chipotle will only round down. they had been rounding up or down to the nearest nickel to try to save time and only in some high volume restaurants. but that policy was never posted. when it was exposed in a report consumers complained. the company now says it will only round down and do that in customers' favor. >> a new iphone is set to hit the market but this morning we're learning there could be problems before it rolls off the assembly line. we turn to kayla tausche. good morning. >> good morning. there's always a story

right now let's bring in christina loren. she has the latest advisory from the national hurricane center. christina, at this point i guess the question is how much longer will that northern gulf coast be under the gun? >> it looks like it could be another 12 to 24 hours before we are done with at least tropical storm-force winds in that region. let's get right to the latest advisory. this just came into our newsroom moments ago. what i can tell you, still a category 1 storm but it's at the low end of a category 1 storm. that starts at 74 miles per hour, so as we head through the next couple hours we are expecting isaac to lose a lot of energy. and we're already noticing that. you can see the eye is starting to close in. that indicates that the storm is becoming less organized, less powerful. nonetheless, it is a slow-moving system. and we don't have any shearing winds, no areas of low pressure coming out of the west coast to move isaac out of the way, so as we progress through the next 72 hours it will still be a potent syste

christina is tracking isaac in our weather center. with danielle where preparations are well under way. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. windy along the beach but many are waking up and getting ready to evacuate. the governor has issued evacuation orders for most people along the coast, saying it's time to get to higher ground. yesterday we sawç people beginning to get ready, gatheringç plywood, sandbags a other emergency supplies so that they are not caught offguard by this storm. also emergency teams staging at states including where i am in alabama and louisiana, mississippi and florida. of course louisiana is watching this hurricane, this tropical storm i mean to say, very closely as it veers more toward louisiana and could potentially hit new orleans on the seventh anniversary of hurricane katrina, something people are worried about. all of these states are inç states of emergency right now. everyoneç watches and waits to see what path this so far unpredictable storm will take. danielle lee, back to you. >> christina

meteorologist christina loren, how is it looking? >> good morning to you. and you know we're getting closer to the weekend. people start to perk up when we get to the seven-day forecast as we approach friday and saturday. you can make the outdoor plans and we're going to get a beautiful weekend inland. temperatures aren't going to be that comfortable at the coast, a little cool, a drop-off on the way. however, nice enough for you to hit the beach for the last couple weekends of summer. st. paul around the corner so. i wanted to show what you we expect. we stop the clock on your futurecast at 8:00 a.m. at that point it will likely extend from san francisco to oakland. most of the bay area clear at that point. throughout day today we're going to see another clear day. in fact, we have a full moon out there, hopefully we'll get a live shot of that for you but these are where your temperatures are headed. 77 in oakland, 70 in san francisco, and 76 degrees down in santa cruz. so, if you want to make those weekend plans i've got the seven-day outlook in my next r
