christina coleman is tracking the story live in los angeles. >> a meeting about school safety held inrea turned out to be anything but safe. more than 40 area principles are now sheltering in place after being exposed to coronavirus during this meeting. it was held by santa clara unified school district on june 19th to discuss how to reopen school safely. in addition to those principles, other district officials were also exposed to the virus in this meeting. here is the superintendent. >> unfortunately, one of our members of our leadership team tested positive for covid in the days following friday's meeting. since then, we have taken the following the steps. cleaned and sanitized the meeting location and all attendees were quarantined. >> california has been one of the hardest hit states for confirmed cases of covid-19 since the disease was first identified in the u.s., so it's unclear why the school district decided to have an in person meeting of this size was the state struggles to fight the spread of the virus. here's what one of the school board trustees has to say about it. >>

christina. >> reporter: molly, good to see you again. we just heard cases in florida rose by more than 10,000 since yesterday, texas and tennessee also recently shattered records for single day increases in coronavirus and today new details on reopening efforts in new york city. the city will move into phase three of reopening tomorrow and even though the state of new york has seen a huge drop in coronavirus fatalities, with eight deaths reported since yesterday, governor andrew cuomo is hitting the pause button on reopening indoor dining in new york city. he says he's doing this out of an abundance of caution. more than three dozen states are seeing a spike in covid-19 infections including tennessee. here's senator marsha blackburn on sunday morning futures today, she said we can't afford another lockdown on this economy. >> we cannot afford another lockdown in this economy. 4.8 million jobs, the jobs report, the numbers were good. people want to go to work. they need to do it safely. we have to get ourselves back on track. >> reporter:

jon: christina coleman in los angeles thank you. as the economy continues to reopen more and more states are requiring people to wear masks in an effort to reduce the spread of coronavirus. some states have stop stopped short of issuing a full mandate despite the recent spike in cases. alicea acuna is in denver. report heading to christina coleman's reporting that the governor of louisiana just today announced anyone over the age of aids must now wear a mask in public adding to all that bad starbucks announced in all of its locations and plays and customers must wear masks when they are indoors. there are just four states that do not have some sort of mandate. there would be iowa, montana wisconsin and south dakota. this morning neil cavuto talk to one ohio sheriff who said regardless of his states rules on this he will not be the masks police. >> i wear masks when i go out in public. i wash my hands but it should be your right to wear a mask and the police are so decimated they have had their budgets cut this year because of the co

thanks, christina.arents from coast-to-coast are quite desperate to learn whether their kids to be going back to school. as of today, several school districts across the country have already said to students will not return to classrooms in september. my next guest is a daughter in the new york city, alerting her that when it comes to a full-time return for students, "we know that this will not take place in september." let's bring in carol markowitz, i'm sure when you saw that, you were probably dismayed. 40% of people in the workforce have children at home and it's obviously very difficult to do both. as a parent what is your biggest concern for your children in this situation? >> first of all i was kind of happy that my daughters at school outwardly admitted it because our elected officials have not admitted anything like that so it was at least a moment of truth in an otherwise a sea of lies. so i have three kids and my biggest concern is that people are expecting my 4-year-old to start kindergarten
