christina coleman is in l.a. with the very latest on this. christina. >> hi, david. federal authorities released major new details in this investigation shedding light on a possible motive for the cyber truck explosion. they say the man behind this incident is 37-year-old matthew livelsberger of colorado springs. they released new surveillance video showing him at a tesla charging station during his drive to las vegas prior to blowing up the tesla 8:20 in the morning on new year's day pt they say he was a highly decorated army soldier, most recently a green beret on approved leave from germany and apparently suffering from mental health issues and personal family grievances. they say he shot himself in the head inside of the vehicle just before the tesla blew up. >> although this incident is more public and more sensational than usual, it ultimately appears to be a tragic case of suicide involving a heavily decorated, combat veteran who was struggling with ptsd and other issues. >> even though this incident happened outside of trump's international hotel in las vegas

christina coleman live north of l.a. pete lessard with max gordon these are the very front lines of the palisades fire in the west ridge neighborhood of los angeles pretty see the smoke behind you what's the latest on the ground? >> we are overlooking mandeville canyon right now per this is the palisades of fire right behind me growing to 22600 acres. now at 11% containment part overnight was how this fire begin to grow an increase in fire activity spreading another 1000 acres an an additional amot of fire activity as well later on today. we have quite the air show in the area we had multiple tankers and making drops right behind us here. you can see the pink strip along the ridge line, that's where the air tankers are laying down fire retardant creating a fire break where the fire won't be able to pass. it will hopefully protect the buyers down in the canyon. you can see down there firefighters creating a fire line that demonstrates how steep and rugged this terrain is. these canyons have incredibly difficult firefight

christina coleman is live in altadena with more. hi, christina. >> reporter: hi, alicia. we were with them here in altadena as they helped secure this area. they are guarding different intersections trying to keep people out of this area. they don't want them to get hurt by some of the downed power lines and all of this debris. you know, some of the buildings that have been crumbling, you can see all of this rubble here. they want to keep people safe. they are working with california highway patrol, and authorities understand that emotions are running high, that people want to get back in here and check on their homes, but they are urging people to, please, be patient with them. take a listen. >> please be patient with us. we're trying to be empathetic. we understand this is terrible, to be out of your home, you know, and to lose your home. it's not only the possessions that are in your home, but the it's the memories you've made in that home which are very difficult. >> reporter: the guardsmen are also assisting local authorities in guiden people who have been evacuated
