let's check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren.hole lot of rain. >> a whole lot of rain. and what i have to bring to the table, a bit of good news. the active weather has for the most part moved through the greater bay area and it's concentrated over gilroy. you can see that here from this live picture over san francisco. now later on today, this picture will likely reveal some pretty tall cumulonimbus clouds building. we still have an unstable air mass overhead so we'll be watching that today. i want to widen out and over the greater bay area mostly dry. we have a few pop-up thunderstorms starting to develop. they're falling apart rather quickly but once we get the daytime heating, that could be another story. right now watching temperatures on the cool side as well. you'll need that jacket just about all day long but, hey, talking about 60 degrees. san jose, livermore, you'll hit about 54 degrees at 4:00 p.m. in san francisco and oakland today. so with all that wet weather on the roadways, there's a couple of incidents to report.

we want to check in with christina loren.ping an eye on microclimates for us. >> yeah, given the time this morning, laura. 6:37. good morning. as you make your way out that front door this morning, this is a beautiful sunrise we're getting over the city by the bay. not so much the case, we have overcast conditions in the south and east bay with showers lingering. just to the east of san jose over the western-facing foothills and you can see a little thunderstorm just develop there. most of the activity is now clearing as a result as that system pulls out of the bay area, we have some really gusty winds starting to pick up, and that will be a factor for the first part of the day. as you can see, they're sustained. out of the west at 15 miles per hour with gusts locally heavier at 30 miles per hour especially over the open-water bridges where you lack that friction. you want to keep that in mind. the winds will continuously pick up through the next few hours as that system races into southern california. steady drizzle certainl

christina loren says going to be a nice weekend too. brace yourselves for that.checking on traffic, it is 5:42. >>> that's right, and this just in, john, the unemployment numbers for march were just released minutes ago dropping to 8.2%. "today in the bay's" tracie potts with more on the report for us. >> let me explain that. that's really only part of the story. yes, the unemployment rate dropped from 8.3% to 8.2%. but another big part of this story is that we saw 120,000 jobs created in march. that is half of the job growth that we saw in february. it is significantly less than over 200,000, which is what economists had predicted. so march was a slow month in the recove recovery. still recovering, but a lot slower. we hadn't seen it that slow since last october. still, this rate is now the lowest in three years since january '09. the other thing you want to keep in mind, they do revisions to previous months, both january and february. january saw more jobs than they previously reported or february did, but january saw less. so that balanced out to about a growt

christina loren pulling double duty today. >> this morning i'm getting my money's worth.e have a lot of reports of spinouts on your local highways. we'll tell you where the slow down down is. 48 in livermore and 46 in santa rosa. look at your temperature where you are now in your city, add about 5 degrees. that's all we're expecting for daytime highs today. we've got rain-cooled air in the forecast and spotty shower activity. also expecting some thunderstorms, which we're watching right now developing over the santa cruz mountains so keep that in mind. associated with some of the stronger thunderstorms, you could find yourself with very gusty winds overhead, heavy downpours. we'll be updating you throughout the "today" show. we want to point out where the cell is headed. yeah, it's approaching cupertino in the next 37 minutes. it will be in santa clara in about 54 minutes. we are going to get a little bit of a break from the rain between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. but by 3:00 today that steady rain develops over the coastline and we get heavier rain at hid night. yeah, some
