i am very excited about our newly appointed lgbt supervisor, christina olague. think this is her second -- second press conference as is supervisor cohen that might be her first co-sponsors of providing it is a testament to her commitment to our community that she is here. i think that it says the very clear message also about the unity that we have on the board of supervisors. we, the lgbt supervisors, understand that we have to make sure that we are united in trying to protect our community. and this funding literally will save lives, has saved lives. we're talking about protecting the most vulnerable in our community. so i am proud to be a part of a city government that makes that investment. again, i want to thank speaker pelosi, mayor lee, supervisor wiener, supervisor olague, and we look forward to the full board approving this matter expeditiously. finally, i want to thank the advocacy committee for those who are working with people living with aids/hiv, who brought this to our attention and pushed for this forward. he could not have happened without thei

[jurors and applause] -- [cheers and applause] i have talked to her quite a bit, and i know that she shares my vision of job creation and economic development in putting san francisco back to work. and i know that is also shared by all of the members of our board of supervisors as well. i know she cares about our neighborhoods and smart economic development, and certainly public safety for our neighborhoods. we also share the same values. in our past, a week -- for both came from backgrounds, fighting for the rights of tenants and immigrants. cristina will work every day for the people of district 5, building on a momentum that so many of our community partners that worked hard to achieve. christina olague brings an extraordinary understanding of city government and land use from her time on the planning commission. i am well aware that this may require her to recuse herself from some of the boats immediately before the board of supervisors. i have conside

[laughter] with that said, mayor ed lee. >> thank you. good morning, everyone. we have a very serious challenge for us. as i had said in not only the speech that i gave on that sunday, but i have been talking with members of the board, and i really want to thank supervisor wiener and supervisor campos and supervisor olague for joining me today for this announcement. i said earlier through the year that i always have to watch out for what is not occurring, but that the state level and at the federal level. one of those challenges has been fiscal. we're not hearing very good news. one of those news items that i was fearful of was lynnette supercommittee that congress created to try to come together and make an agreement with all the different parties, cells in their objectives, our cities across the country were hurt by that. one of those programs that we value so much that our leader p

[applause] 26 years ago, this was my room right here. and i had the privilege of -- i hope uyo -- i hope you're not taking me, because you can cut it. i was living here with father tom was the little that i know when i was living with father alfred that i would be following in his sandals, not his footsteps. i had so many wonderful conversations. this was a genius, and he had more ideas than carter had pills. his nephew joe is with us today, and he can vouch for that. his model was you visualize, organize, dubie dies, and supervise. i said, then you agonize. he said, no, you never agonize. and down through the years now as we are at this kind of bittersweet moment, i was down in the dining room and associated with the st. anthony said different levels of ministry and a leadership for 16, 17 years. and i was down there today and -- this is a funky old building, you know? i am going to miss that. building something new is wonderful, because i think it shows that we believe in the dignit

supervisor kim: i just wanted to recognize the supervisor christina olague has joined us. >> good afternoon, supervisors. good afternoon, christina. long time no see from the planning commission. [laughter] from here on behalf of william cartagena. william is an example. he could not find a job. he creates jobs for other people. he is making the connections. he belongs to differ merchants associations. one is the marina. i did not know before, but a person that can be in different places running the business of around the city, living in one of the most low-income community neighborhoods like district 10 and giving the example for the minority district and creating jobs and making the connection -- this is the person who should be considered. we have a good candidate with a good connection in the business center. they are already doing something with the business, giving an opportunity for developers to our communities is unimportant -- is important. it is important when someone i do not know anything about -- just listen to the perspective of somebody who wants to consider the low-income c

not knowing what was coming, i spoke at witchcraft with christina olague who was the president of the commission at the time. perhaps wrongly i thought the one most interested in affordable housing in the mission. it was only getting -- after getting the positive not from the sources that we applied for this modification and came back to you for the commission. can i have continued that the outreach within the last 24 hours. i have had three discussions with olsen lee. i sent him an e-mail and committed we would pay the affordable housing fee which is 1 million within 90 days. without deferral. he was interested in the money. he has a use for the money which is booker t. but you should be aware there are 100% other housing projects awaiting funding. thus both come to me from olsen lee. they do need money. i'm available to answer questions. that is our request. with this change not only will we pay the fee but we will be able to get financed and we intend to build the project as soon as practical, like now. thank you. >> is there public comment? if not, public comment is closed. as muc

we're joined by supervisor christina olague. the mayor's office of housing. >> i will go back to the powerpoint. >> maybe once they finish their presentation if you would like to add anything, that would be great. >> we will talk about who are the middle income residents that we're speaking about. we will talk about how our house -- what our housing study found. we will draw some conclusions about the housing needs and at the end, our director will lead a policy discussion about how we might better serve residents of these different income levels. because we will run through a lot of data, we wanted to give you a preview of the conclusions so people can get a sense of where we will be leading you to. for very low-income households, we will reach the conclusion that for this population, virtually all rental apartments are out of reach in terms of affordable rentals. this population is the target for deed restricted rentals. those rental units where the city had put some dollars in and can restrict the rental price. for low income

[applause] first, let me begin by saying that during the campaign for mayor and certainly post- campaign, there has been a very strong effort on our part to make sure that job creation and economic development, as i said in my speech and inauguration -- that that becomes a priority for me and my administration. i have a lot of support that the board for this as well. part of that not only is when we talk about jobs and talk about the training and getting people involved that the early level of their education to get into the work force and making sure that they see san francisco as full of hope for them, but also, we have got to take care of some of the other important elements of having a good, strong work force, and that is housing. not just for low-income, although here, that is what this is focused on. that is why we have so many advocates here today, but they will agree that work force and middle-class housing is just as important in this town. as w

port christina olague, having to hold up that way in hold the line on that.has always been successful, and these are huge, huge shoes to fill. i thing cindy wu is going to do an excellent, excellent job. and i had the personal experience last year of working alongside her and changing some of the practices of the planning department in how they engage communities of color. you know, from little things like translation to leaving cultural competency, had great discussions with staff. [bell rings] and hopefully we are on the road to changing the practice. another thing is just people seeing that there is this young person, a person of color on the planning commission, especially for folks trying to hold on to the city and feel the government does not listen, to see somebody that looks like them, talks like them, has the experience that they do. it means a lot. we have a long way to go the planning commission. we're hoping we get an eastern side representative when the mayor has to appoint someone in june. i support her appointment. thank you. supervisor kim: th
