i'm christine romans. this is "your money." maybe you don't have that date marked in your calendar but that was the start of a major, major rally. if you're smart or lucky and definitely solvent, you bought stocks back then and you're admiring the hefty returns. the s&p 500 is up 145% from that date and hitting record after record high. if you're not in this market you are missing out and if you are in you're wondering if it's time to sell. but what if you missed the entire rally? can you still get in, or are you the sucker? there still may be some room to run. the current bull market is the fifth largest since 1928. if you compare it with the other four it could, could push even higher. the bull market is in the 1940s is just a few percentage points higher but look at 1982 to 1987-up 228%. 1948 to 1956 up 267% and the king of all the bulls, 1987 to 00 the s&p 500 surged 582%. the average span of the top five bull markets is 2,300 days, that's about six and a half years. this current rally just over four years. jim rogers is ch

i'm john berman. >> and i'm christine romans. yanira maldonado is a free woman this morning. a mexican judge released her just hours ago, after a week in jail on charges of smuggling drugs. the key, surveillance video. rafael romo live from nogales, arizona. rafael, we just heard yanira speak. what did she reveal about her time in jail? >> well, it was a very difficult time, as you can imagine, but something that we learned about her, she's a mormon and what she told me on wednesday and repeated again today was that during that difficult time in prison, when she didn't really know whether she was going to be released, as soon as she wanted, she relied on scripture, she relaid on prayer, and also the prayers of the people outside and the messages that she was receiving. let's listen to what she had to say about what the conditions were inside the prison in nogales, mexico. >> i was told that i would be, you know, sent to another prison, a federal prison and it really scared me, but it really got my faith and reading the scriptures

that's it, christine. republicans still allege that the obama administration misled americans in the lead-up to the presidential election. as to the cause of the attack in benghazi, removing specific references to terror in those cia-authored talking points. and the committee wants to see more when it comes to those talking points and how the state department was involved in suggesting some of those changes. those obviously were used, those talking points used by u.n. ambassador susan rice in the days following the attacks where she said repeatedly publicly she referenced a spontaneous demonstration in benghazi, as the potential cause of it. i will tell you, though, christine, the state department officials there feel that they have been forthcoming. the white house feels this is straight up a fishing expedition. you heard president obama call it a side show. >> brianna keilar thank you so much. at the white house this morning. >>> fire caused by a collision between a truck and a freight train full of chem

christine is right, two conflicting reports about the jobs. private sector survey says employment will be -- has actually slowed down this month, and christine is right. the other report showing jobless claims falling, which is a goo thing. you continue to see people drop out of the labor force. and this is really been the kind of hallmark of this recovery. really been unprecedented that even as the economy has improved and picks up, you still have people dropping out of the labor force, and that's really inhibiting growth. >> christine, i want to ask you about the forced cuts. forced spending cuts, sequester. in your mind, do they have anything to do with what might be kind of an eh jobs report tomorrow? >> we'll dig into the numbers to see if you see forced spending cuts. but some of the things like the faa furloughs, for example. those aren't job cuts, people just staying home. not getting paid for a day of work. they won't be considered a forced spending cut. less economic activity because of those forced spending cuts. we're still trying

"your money" with christine romans starts right now. >>> children kicked out of head start, fewer meals for low income seniors, smaller benefit checks for jobless american. the most vulnerable in america are crying out over washington's forced budget cuts. is anyone listening? the pain of forced budget cuts, known as the sequester. it is taking hold for some americans. call it a case of selective sequester around the country. head start programs are cutting slots for low-income children in the fall. the national head start association gave us a few examples. this kentucky, one large provider reports 164 spots gone. in california, three programs are slashing 382 spots. in colorado, another big provider cutting 138 spaces. ultimately, 70,000 children could lose out. low-income seniors are losing meals on wheels. the southern maine agency on aging tells us they've gone from providing up to 850 meals a weekend to 250. if you get federal unemployment benefits in california, this week your check got smaller. about $79 less on average. 19 other states and the district of columbia are also send

i'm christine romans.ney. 27 years, that's how long it's been since the united states overhauled immigration law, but this week, we got a step closer. on tuesday, members of the senate judiciary committee reached an agreement on a landmark bill. three republicans joined the democrats in a landmark measure. immigration touches every aspect of american live. it raises heated controversial issues about national security and cultural identity, but make no mistake, at its core, immigration is 100% about jobs. under this bill, the number of highly skilled foreign workers admitted to the country would rise from 65,000 a year to 110,000 and possibly more depending on the unemployment levels. that's a major win for big tech firms. tech company ceos say they can't find enough talent at home to fill the positions they need, it also scrapped legislation requiring the companies to make a good faith effort to find american workers before hiring from abroad. that now only applies to runt companies that hire foreign natio

kpix 5's christin ayers just talked to police chief howard jordan about his surprise retime and christin told you he wants to set the record straight about his surprise retirement? >> reporter: he said a few minutes ago as we spoke to him that chief jordan was not forced out of the oakland police department. he also told me that his resignation had absolutely nothing to do with the report that was issued recently by the compliance director who is in charge of monitoring the oakland police department. that report was highly critical of the police department and specifically of the police chief. but jordan insists his resignation had nothing to do with that. he said this was strictly a medical issue. he would not specify what kind of medical issue but he said it was a condition that has worsened in the past six months. here's a listen to what he told me just a short time ago. >> it's something that i have been dealing with for a while. obviously, over the last six months it's gotten worse and i have to make a choice and the choice i made is to live my life so that i can preserve my health
