chief business correspondent christine romans is with us. what do they tell us?this is the broadest gauge, everything we make, bake, send, receive, 1.9% for the fourth quarter which is a slowdown from the third quarter. for the year, about 1.6%, the slowest since 2011. what it shows you is that the recovery looks like it stalled a bit last year in 2016. so we've seen this before where you've got job growth, you've got stock market at record highs, home prices rising. over all the american economy not growing to its potential here. a lot of reasons for it. some people think it's structural, some think it's productivity. that's what it looks like quarter by quarter. when you look at the why, exports were down, the dollar has been strong. imports were up, the dollar has been strong. personal consumption slowed a little at the end of the year. politically these numbers fit right into the president trump's world view. he has promised he can grow the economy at 4%. he even said 5%. >> when is the last time we saw 4? >> the '90s. >> consistently seen 4, a quarter. >> do

christine romans joins us to parse the numbers. good morning. >> this is the phenyl report of his presidency. a solid end to the year. overall 2.2 million new jobs created. you can see november, that was revised, about 200,000 jobs created in november, 156 in december. this is what it looks like for the president's tenure. i went back over the numbers. you look at the first year of his presidency, 5 million jobs vanished. remember those terrible days? the next years were spent rebuilding. after that 5 million loss, there were more than 15 million jobs created. under this president, 11 million net new jobs created. let me show you the unemployment rate, at dramatic reversal. got above 10%. finally here at 4.7%. you might recall last month it was 4.6%. why would the unemployment rate rise? it rose because 184,000 people may have been more encouraged about the news they're hearing and are now looking for a job. let me show you where the jobs are. health care, this has been unbelievable, the growth in health care. these are jobs that s

. >> i'm christine romans.hat is happens or all in happening what president-elect trump promised about alleged russian hacking claiming what only he knew. the president-elect is likely to sit down towards the end of the week. trump explained postponing his planned remarks this way in a tweet. the "intelligence" briefing on so-called russian hacking, also in quotes, was delayed until friday. perhaps more time needed to build a case. very strange! >> that is what president-elect donald trump says, but u.s. officials tell us there was no delay in briefing the president-elect on russian hacking. that the director of national intelligence james clapper was never scheduled to be in new york for the top-level briefing until friday. one u.s. official suggested that maybe mr. trump confused the presidential daily briefing with the final intelligence on hacking. the president has not even seen the final report yet. the latest twist on this, this is really at least the third version on this subject for the last four days

let's break down donald trump's plan with cnn's chief business correspondent christine romans. ristine, help us understand from the lehman out there exactly what trump's plan is. >> well, really, it's a complex set of businesses, right? over lapping senate businesses. let me give you simple bullet points about what donald trump said he was going to do to divest himself from his business. he said is had sons will take over the trump organization. he is going to put his assets in a trust that he won't touch for the next years of his administration. he won't do any new foreign deals with the trump organization, and any domestic deals, any new domestic hotel deals or any kind of licensing deals or any kind of golf course deals. they'll go through an ethics advisor that is in house at the trump organization. that's something that people are concerned about there. he is going to receive, he says, overall profit data about his investments, about his stake in the company, but at the end of his tenure, he says if his boys didn't do a good job, he will fire them. he is not selling his bus
