. >>> joining us now, christopher o'leary and special fbi agent carl sh may. carl, what do you think the fbi is prioritizing right now as they try to nail down a motive? >> good morning, ana. the fbi is doing a deep dive into thomas crooks' background. it sounds like they've been executing search warrants. they want to look for any evidence of some indication of what his mind-set was. that means searching his home, his vehicle, any computers he might have had. it's been reported the fbi has his telephone. they're going to be looking at phone records, financial records. they're going to be interviewing a lot of people, anyone who might have known mr. crooks to provide some insight as to what his mind-set was. >> christopher, the fbi says the online activity is heightened. people are online right now mimicking the shooter. you work in this realm. what do you make of this>>> unfortunately it's not surprising, ana. the political environment was ripe for this. in the u.s. history, unfortunately u.s. violence is not uncommon. there have been four successful assassin

. >> i also want to bring in christopher o'leary, former fbi agent. is for, what are your observations as you watch the scene unfold as we have been playing this video over again? >> i think clint hit on it. there is speculation on if it was gunfire or not. in my experience, that sounds a lot like it and it sounds like it could have been multiple calibers and with the addition of the call that the shooter was down, that indicates secret service likely immediately responded to whatever happened. that is what they are trained to do. they are the best in the world at protection. i would venture to say that there procedure in this rally are the same that they are in every other event that they do. everybody would have been screened coming in. the president was likely put behind the podium because it is a ballistic podium and they would pause him there until they had the situation under control and immediately evacuate him. the hospital had to be precleared. so they had a route that was already run to the hospital and they know they had a trauma surgeon th

. >>> to are provide more information let's bring in counter terrorism agent christopher o'leary.ade a donation to a democratic group. how does that complicate the investigation? how do they figure out a motive. >> it's important to remember we are in the early days of this investigation and all the resources of the fbi they have at their disposal have been sent up to the pittsburgh office. that includes resources from the fbi counterterrorism division, the fbi laboratory division, the behavioral analysis unit to be able to get inside the mind of the shooter. but additionally there will be computer forensics people going through every bit of his hardware but also his social media to try to find out who he was interacting with, what he was searching, what he was reading. but then there's an additional thing, was he involved in online gaming. that is something we look at in the domestic terrorism realm to determine if they're interactive, playing in certain games, interacting with people playing these games because we've seen that as a radicalizer in certain cases as well. >> we kno
