christopher rufo has been on this, issue of critical race theory. he's an expert. nhattan institute and a national resource. christopher, would you please first explain to american people what is critical race theory? >> sure. critical race theory is an academic discipline that holds that the united states was founded on white supremacy and critically that white supremacy still serves as the foundational ideology of our country today. the critical race theorists argue that our rights, our constitution, our declaration, are all mere camouflages for racial oppression. they argue that white supremacy today is just as bad as it was 100 years ago, 200 years ago, 300 years ago, that racism is a permanent endemic condition and that all white americans, by virtue of their skin color are inherently racist and oppressive and that the only way to solve the problems in society is to dissolve the constitutional rights that we have, to up end and overturn our economic system, and engage in marxist race-based economic redistribution. >> mark: marxism, racism, hatred, segregation,

. >> joining me now, christopher rufo, from the discovery institute center on wealth and poverty.ll over this for a long time. good to have you here today. i want to start with you if i may, by pulling up this letter from senator mcconnell to attorney general merrick garland. this issue has focused attention on merrick garland and what kind of attorney general he is around whether or nothe's got just jurisdiction to go after parents. mcconnell should be telling local schools what to teach. this is the basis of representative government. they do this in electioned and as protected by the first amendment and petitioning government, telling officials they're wrong is democracy, not intimidation. what do you say about that, chris? >> i think that's absolutely right. we have to understand that this entire saga is predicated on a verifiable lie. in the original national school board association letter asking the justice department or the fbi to start cracking down on parents, they created this myth that there's somehow a rash of cases of violence and intimidation and harassment all over

christopher rufo who is very much part of the school board meeting movement. a microcosm what is happening all over the country. it is obviously close to our nation's capital. there is a lot of media attention. there are thousands of school districts hearing from parents who are rallying like they never rallied before. parents are really drawing a line in the sand. they are saying we want to be ultimate authority over our public institutions, over our schools, no the bureaucrats, not diversity officials, not teachers unions. what is happening in loudon county matters. it is important but it is absolutely symbolic of the broader movement taking over the nation. stuart: at the heart of that movement is crt, critical race theory. that has got people fired up s that it? >> that's right. we have school districts, again across the country that are teaching kids they're inherently oppressive or oppressed based on their race. that they should feel guilty for collective crimes and historical injustice. really pitting parents, students against their own parents. i talke
