chris christie, thanks very much for joining me. mr. christie: my pleasure. how much of the chaos inst the white houss from throwing out your transition plan? mr. christie: i have always said about 75% of it. there is always chaos in the white house and especially with a president who has not been in public office before. but so many of these things were avoidable. we had set up 30 volumes of information, everying from white papers on policy proposals and how to implement them to vetting ofrs three people for every cabinet and senior staff position to a day one plan, 100-datplan, al200-day plan. of those things were thrown out. i think it ill served the president extraordinarily to have a small group of peop do it on the back of an envelope over 71 days, and that chaos,ar especially the chaos, was indicative of the bad decision. jane: you say in your book that in this environment it is almost impossible to catch can the president catch up? what can he do to salvage the next two years? mr. christie: i think what he needs to do is hit the reset button. i don't

[laughter] gerry: let's see, we'll explore that, whether you can live up to that title. in the book, you are very critical of some of the people around president trump and some of the appointments he made. you famously described some of those key figures as riffraff. yet people would say, well, you know, we're two years into the trump administration, he's built a record of achievement; tax cuts, deregulations and foreign policy breakthroughs. that's not bad, is it? >> he's gone and succeeded in spite of some of the people around him, and that's a tribute to the president's leadership style and his persistence and his toughness. all of which i've gotten to know over my 17 years of friendship with him and i think is very well outlined in the book, my admiration for the president's toughness and ability to persevere. he shouldn't have to do that. the president -- the presidency's tough enough

governor christie: yes.that and i have seen that happen before in the heat of a political campaign where people go out and they lose their cool. i know that the next day, he called me, he apologized and said he would never do that again, new lows wrong, and you know what, he never did it again. a lot of things donald trump said are not supported by the facts. chris christie: part of it is he has been a salesman his whole life. salesmen use hyperbolic rhetoric in order to make a point. the underlying point may be correct but some of the rhetoric surrounding the point, not so much. i think the president is still very much adjusting to his new world. spent 40 plus years as a real estate developer making everything big and great and wonderful. sometimes in government, it is not the case. i think he is still learning that in terms of tony down the hyperbolic rhetoric a little bit. david: you have run for office and attained office of new journey -- new jersey governor. is someone going to challenge president trum

now, here's the problem with that, christi. supreme court did that, justice scalia died -- remember, he died in february of 2016. the three justices who actually voted in the minority, in that case, right, happen to be alito who issued this order, republican happened to be chief justice roberts, republican, and also happened to be chief clarence thomas, a republican. to your question, there are two new justices, gorsuch, a republican, and the swing vote kennedy who voted with the majority. the concern is that there will be a flip. that the three justices who voted to ultimately say that, you know what, this texas law is actually good, that those three justices now, if you join gorsuch with them and kavanaugh, you know what, this law will indeed go in effect. and the louisiana law that actually says that unduly impaired the right for a woman to choose might knack be the law of the land. so there are significant repercussions to that. again, in terms of the question in 2020, you know, as everyone tox about the consequences of ele
