supervisor chu: you are going pretty quickly. it in terms of the lrv switch back, you say that it is sometimes required to make sure the system goes back in place. could you explain that more? >> are we talking about page six, lrv switch backs? what would you like me to amplify on? supervisor chu: you sort of glossed over the issue by saying that switchbacks were necessary. that does not really capture the public perception, which is a huge inconvenience. waiting to be dropped off at sunset boulevard for 20 minutes perhaps. we got an e-mail from someone who said that they recently had their whole family waiting 20 minutes for the train to come but it did not come. i want you to explain why the mta makes choices to switch back vehicles at particular locations. >> ok, let me first address the second part of your comment. this morning's service was unacceptably bad, cosaused by to things. there was an inadequate number of cars and then a derailment that affected putting the cars on the street. there were a lot of m trains, n trains,

chair chu: thank you, supervisor.s there anything you can add about funding, whether that is part of a capital fund for a city-and facility? -- a city-owned facility? >> i appreciate the supervisors comments. historically, the request has been in the capital plan, and we have yet found a way to fund the program. chair chu: any other comments from the mayor's budget office? >> madam chair, there is a question about whether the intent is to provide funding in the budget for the consolidation of data centers at the plant facility. c -- planned facility? chair chu: no, i think it is about a future data center. we talked previously from the comptroller's office above the cost potentially of having to make investments to retrofit a facility. is that part of the capital plan at this time? >> absolutely. supervisor chu, capital planning staff had been involved since the beginning, and actually were part of the leadership in some of the early studies on data centers, the issues, and facilities, and investment, so it absolutely

supervisor chu: thank you. next speaker place. >> good afternoon. congratulations on your reelection. i live in the inner sunset. i'm not quite as impacted by the turnaround's, the short term ends. i understand that they are a necessary evil sometimes, but nonetheless, they are still evil, and i think there are ways to make them less evil. one radical change would be basically to try to pull up the rails where they can make the short turns, and if they are short turning, just to get to the part of public works. i know that is pretty radical, the i heard from the other speakers that there is maybe only two-minute difference between sunset boulevard and ocean beach. again, that is pretty radical. one of the other things we could do is to mitigate the city short trends are have a bus bridge. i do not know if it can get a bus behind the trades that are affected, adjusted at least -- if it does require a two-c travel, at least you are getting to your destination. there is some inconvenience, but if you just want to

supervisor chu: thank you, supervisor avalos. one of the things we could do, there are some slides that are at i am interested in getting to which includes the number of switchbacks on individual lines. perhaps we can go to those and have more directed questions for the mta. would that be ok? ok. >> on page 11, those are the characteristics that you know of the lines. on page 12 is the n line. the point of this is to show, over the course of a year, the number of trips we run nurses the number of short term that we make. it is a small percentage of the total trips. the other point to make, when we talked about wanting to inconvenience the fewest number of people, switchbacks are in generally done at sunset. trains are turned to support, through the greater good of riders, and minimizing inconvenience to people. we recognize when someone is asked to get off, they are inconvenienced, even if there is one behind it. we do everything we can to minimize the impact on the least number of riders. similarly, on the l line, a small percen
