here who take brown the stories for us, dominic chu, corey and dominic chu.f you're wondering why the market is down so much, yes, it's the ism report but major players are getting hit today. check out what's going on. charles schaub is getting rid of trading commissions all together for u.s. stocks, etf aq acquisitions last week great for the newers but now shares on schaub stocks are down more than 10%. td ameritrade is down 24% on its news for the worst day in 13 years. >> so the writing's been on the wall for decades now i remember when it was a big deal when trades went to like $50 a trade, down to $29.95, down to $9.95 and $4.95. lowered by charles schaub. and then etfs with zero trading and zero fees. the spread concession has been happening for years. they announced a $1 platform trade in the last couple of weeks. the whole thing has been going this way for a while what it does is beg the question whether or not these people can continue to make money i will tell you, yes, they can i will not get into the -- >> charles schaub has a bank, which is why

dom chu has the answer for us. >> we did hit the high of the s&p right above the bell and the old mark 3027 and now above that but for the dow industrials we've given up half of the gains so we'll see if the momentum slowdown continues but green across the board for the major indices and one place they are outperforming is the small cap stocks this is the vanguard, ticker vtwo, that fund is up 1% the dow only up about a quarter of 1% at this stage so that move higher is playing catch-up and we'll see if the bulls could cling on to that and the stock of the day so far and breaking news in the last couple of hours, fitbit shares off the highs but still up 23% on the day. now just for some context, go back to the post ipo highs, this is a massive stock over here it lost about 90% of the value since the ipo, at one point it was almost $11 billion stock and today it is worth about $1.5 billion to $2 billion and keep in mind and about 13% of these shares of fitbit are held by short sellers so we'll see if the squeeze is part of the story. >> tnd as a great story. we'll have more on that, dom

but first, we begin with today's markets and dom chu has the state of play. >> slowing momentum, but not terrible the dow is down by about 56 points and a big reason why. we'll get to that in a second. but the s&p 500 just cannot seem to get above or beyond that far away from 3,000. and we still hover there right now. just about up 11 at the highs of the day we were down four point in the s&p at the low. just hovering near the lows now. nasdaq outperforming if you're looking for one of the industry groups that continues to show solid momentum, all year long, check out what's happening with home builders and home construction stocks. this etf track, it's up three quarters of 1% nothing crazy, but look at this. since the lows in december, this particular etf is up 60% during that time span a huge move higher and buy the way, noby the way, none has bee higher than 5 to 7% and the reason the dow is lagging so much today, check out what's happening with shares of 3m. the biggest drag in the dow today after they miss earnings, missales estimates and cut their full year forecast sale slowdo

that's all ahead in rapid fire first, dom chu with the numbers. >> like you mentioned, we ar gaining traction in the markets overall because we are above those closing highs record wise for the s&p 500. but remember, if we got and at one point today, we hidid t 3027 that is the day record high for the s&p. we got there today but just six tenths of a point. one point below that record high level. s&p solidly breaking above that 3,000 level. if you're looking for some of the leadership out there, intel shares on the semi-conductor side of things, a real source of positivity for the markets overall. those shares gaining huge ground here up over 7% on the day and that means the overall semi-conductor industry, as evidence by this etf, it tracks the industry up 1% as well by the way, we'll put a star here because that is he a record high for the semi-conductor etf. and if you are looking at stock of the day, it has to be amazon. why? because at one point, you can see here yesterday we had dropped 9% in the after-hours session in the heels of earnings look at this since then, we've gone al

so who you are hearing there, susan chu with the contra costa county pio joining us now via phone. are you there, susan. >> i am. >> thanks so much for taking the time. i know it is so busy as the preparations must be underway there. tell us about the things that you are doing there in contra costa county to prepare for these outages that are hitting the bay bridge. >> so i'm actually in the county emergency operations center as we speak. we've been preparing for a couple of days to get the public messaging out about pg&e public safety power shutoff is indeed occurring today. as you know, starting around 12:00 noon through tomorrow about noon, the same time, we have in contra costa county, pg&e estimates about 51,000 customers that could lose power which we expect that impact to really hit about 120,000 residents in the county. key thing to note, we've got large areas of the county that include bay point canyon and kensington and mar agoa and north concord, orinda and pleasant hill and richmond and walnut creek that are likely to be impacted. pg&e did note that the community of ros

i think that chair chu has designated herself, volunteered to be the liaison on this subject, and i think probably what will happen between now and your january meeting is i'll have some of my staff refresh and build on a matrix that we worked on before that shows the bond programs, the type of schedule they're providing, what their reporting period is, so we can see the variability that exists and we can explore how useful the committee has found the reports and where we may look for improvements. so you have a period now, november and december where you don't have an in-person meeting, so i think we should be able to find time to have a liaison meeting on that subject if that sounds appropriate. >> one other thing. can you ask them to go back and look at our previous meetings to you know, understand how we use it. brian was referring back to some specific information in some of the reports, so i think we can use that as facts on how we're using them, how that information is actively being used in a meeting. i know brenda also had interacted with the reports in an in-depth way. >> okay.
