good morning, sir. >> hello, chuck. thank you for asking me to be on. >> well, it was trying to beat a five-term incumbent governor, not easy. a lot of democrats decided to pass on this challenge. why do you think you're going to be able to pull what many would view as one of the greatest upsets in iowa history? >> i think we have to remember that in iowa we have a lot of independent voters and we make our minds up toward the end of the election cycle. i can only remind you in 1998 when tom sivilsack was down by points in september and came back to win by 5 points in that election. that also shows iowans are willing to listen to new and fresh ideas. the governor has been here for 20 years. he's not a fresh face. he's not providing the leadership that we expect and iowa deserves. iowa is coasting and people think maybe he's been there too long. i think we have an opportunity to show the difference between what a fresh face and new ideas can bring to iowa and get iowa kind of rolling again. we deserve better than to be co

>> that's right, chuck. what the justice department is going to say and we know this, what the president really wants to do are all the things included in the legislation that passed in bipartisan fashion through the united states senate that would pass the house of representatives if congressional republicans weren't blocking it. so we already can't do as much as we would like to do. the reason we can't do that is because congressional republicans are blocking it. what the president is going to do is he's asked his attorney general and the secretary of homeland security to take a careful look at the law and see what is possible. what is it that the president can do using his executive authority within the confines of the law to try to address some of these problems. not just that congress is ignoring but congressional republicans are actively blocking. >> i want to turn now to israel. how would you characterize the relationship between the obama administration and netanyahu government? is it as tight as it'

when do you think we'll see lightning, chuck?> thunderstorms are likely the develop after 1:00 or 2:00 this afternoon and continue until 9:00 or 10:00 this evening. so that will be the timeframe to be most alert. the biggest risk for severe weather is east of the blue ridge that does include the d.c. metro area and down into parts of southern maryland and much of northern virginia down to richmond. the view outside from the tower looking straight up wisconsin avenue right there to bethesda, skies are mostly cloudy here in washington. prince george's county looking back over the district, mostly cloudy skies. there's the woodrow wilson bridge there. and out to the west, this is looking live at dullest international airport. you can see the blue ridge in the distance but that will fade with rain drops moving in within the next hour or. so they will gradually spread east. and it is much, much warmer east of the mountains. as a result, that's going to be the fuel for thunderstorms today. so the forecast is hot and humid. severe storm

i will go to chuck on the politics of this. is there a real partisan difference on how to deal with 52,000 young people who were brought here by the coyotes and smugglers in some attempt to disrupt our system? i don't know what's going on. >> well, there is some difference. it has to do with parts of the democratic party and the white house where they actually don't see eye to eye. there is more of a split on this specific issue. because the one thing you didn't mention is the white house -- they didn't do it in this letter. they did it last week. they want to change the law, the current law right now, that 2008 law. remember there is the executive order the president signed that republicans say is what is being used by these drug cartels to create the rumor and says if you come across the border you get to stay. it's the 2008 law which does not give the department of homeland security and border patrol the the ability immediately essentially deport the kids across back to their home countries in a quick manner. instead the 200

coming up in the next ten minutes at 6:11, chuck bell is joining us live on eighth street. now, erika, back to you. >>> we have new developments now in the investigation of malaysia airlines flight 17. in the past 20 minutes we have learned malaysia airlines investigators just arrived on the scene of the crash site. the bodies of the passengers are now in a safe area of ukraine. forensic experts will now examine the remains beforehanding them over to the netherlands for further identification. all but 16 of the bodice on board flight 17 have been recovered. an international team of investigators is also examining the plane's black box recorders. armed rebels turned them over last night. and in the meantime, russia denies involvement in the crash. the foreign ministry says a ukrainian fighter jet had tracked the airliner despite kiev's assertions that no aircraft were nearby or was nearby at the time. the european union will meet today to consider further sanctions against russia. >>> 6:03 right now and neighbors say they knew the two young men who were locked in a basement

jason riley, i want to pick up on chuck's point about rand paul. does he look like a republican front-runner this far out? and if he does, he represents the libertarian wing of the republican party on foreign policy on such a big foreign policy week. you were just saying how striking it is to you. >> particularly his views on foreign policy i think don't sit well with a lot of republicans. i'm a little -- >> where is the dick cheney wing, the lindsey graham wing? >> exactly. rand paul's views on foreign policy are not that different from president obama's in terms of disengagement. that's the reality there. what struck me about this poll, my takeaway, is the gop bench is much deeper than the democratic bench here. it's basically hillary or bust among democrats. i was also surprised at how well jeb bush and chris christie are going in republican circles. there are deal breaker issues on immigration with jeb bush and on moderation on climate change and gun control with chris christie. voters seem to be telling pollsters otherwise which is interesting
