i'm chuck todd in new york. joining me live in just a moment is roger stone, one of president trump's long-time confidants an closest advisers. we'll talk to him about the intensifying russia probe as the special counsel's investigation seems to be getting closer and closer to the president and showing more interest in mr. stone. it will be stone's first live interview since the marathon cable news appearances by his long-time aide and protege, sam nunberg. nunberg did back-to-back-to-back interviews monday defending stone. he said repeatedly he would refuse to comply with a grand jury subpoena and he would not turn over e-mails, texts and other documents dating back to the trump campaign and involving several of the president's current or former top aides. nunberg now says he probably will comply after all and cooperate with investigators. nunberg's tell-all comes as we now know that mueller's team is asking questions about the president himself, including what he knew about wikileaks and when he knew it. and w

and now saying, i've never had any contact with him. >> chuck, you're the expert on this.investigators wade through that? how do they sort fact from fiction with roger stone? how much weight is given to what he said? and how much weight is given to his claims that he was lying or it was a joke? >> good question, katy. so from his own mouth and his own words, he tells you that he was in contact with assange circumstantially. the timing of what he said and the release of the documents also suggest that he knew it was coming. but what prosecutors will do, what investigators will do is corroborate it. they'll look at phone records, travel records, e-mails, lodging, whatever it takes to show that people were in certain places at certain times and in communication with one another. and by the way, a federal judge will tell a federal jury the following thing, when they're charging the jury. circumstantial evidence is given every bit as much weight as direct evidence. the law makes no distinction between the two. and what you have here is both direct evidence, stuff out of his own
