"mtp daily" with my friend chuck todd starts now. ♪ ♪ >>> welcome to wednesday.is "meet the press daily." the president has just arrived in el paso, texas, where he is visiting a community that is obviously still reeling from this weekend's horrific massacre after a gunman echoing some of the president's anti-immigrant warnings of a, quote, invasion killed 22 people at a local walmart including eight mexican citizens. and we have just learned that the president will be visiting families, victims, first responders and hospital staff at the university medical center at el paso. it's where he's headed right now. there have been some protests today in el paso after a few local leaders urged the president not to visit. we are going to speak with one of those leaders in just a moment. but we should note there were others in the community who have welcomed the president as well. but, folks, the bigger problem with this visit as we saw a little bit is that the president doesn't have a lot of credibility publicly as a moral leader on issues of hate, and he's lacking the c

radical dim senator chuck schumer, praising the president today. and aligning himself with the president on china. listen to this. >> we have to be really tough on china. they have taken advantage of us, america has lost trillions of dollars and millions of jobs. because china has not played fair. and being tough on china is the right way to be. lou: byron york joining us, chief political correspondent for washington examiner, fox business contributor, to hear chuck schumer lineup with the president on any issue, is extraordinary and newsworthy, but on issue of trade with china it is important alliance. >> humor has done this before, you are right, this say big deal on anything, any president, not a bad idea to have leader of the opposition in senate on your side. it bodes well. but specifically on china. where trump aattorney parentally has -- apparently has support of the farmers in midwest, they are hurt by this, but they say we've been abused by china for so long, something has to be done. really what you look at complexity of the issue. you lo

but, chuck, to me the biggest story line of all is just how controlled the senate is going to be running through the sun belt. we talked about arizona. now north carolina a battleground state, that is going to be really important as well, too. and so if democrats are going to be at 50 or 51, they're going to need to do well in the sun belt, at least one of those states. >> is this the election we're going to find out the sun belt's the new midwest basically? the midwest has been moving to the sun belt to arizona and florida. i mean, if democrats win the white house they are doing it through the sun belt, aren't they? >> absolutely. you guys just went through a tick of a list of really strong

i think you're absolutely right, chuck.tter than the health care debate, the fact she's still in support of medicare for all with this plan that goes into effect over the course of ten years. a lot of questions about whether that's feasible, of course. but look, she was a candidate who came out very early on in this gun discussion. i think she she's someone to watch right now. i think she's going to be really hammering that point home. i also think it's notable, president trump doesn't have a nickname for her yet. i don't think he's quite figured out how to go after her, whereas with the other candidates, with biden, for example, he has his one liners ready. >> hugh hewitt, i was just about to set you up. you've been a big admirer of hers from the other side of the aisle. what do you make of it? >> i believe she's still going to be the nominee. i took two things away from your interview. she's playing a prevent defense in the nfl. that means she's timid. she's one of the big democrats who did not call donald trump a white s
