you've known chuck grassley a long time. i've covered chuck grassley a long time. i would call chuck grassley a capital n, capital r normal republican. cares about farm policy. he's been there for a long time. he issues this minority report that is the kind of thing you would see on a segment of oan, fox news. it attempts to defend the president by saying he never actually pulled off the coup. he's going to be at a rally with him this week end. what does it say about chuck grassley who is aligning himself with a man who did this? >> i think we've seen very few exceptions where republicans have been willing to stand up to this. one of them is liz cheney in the house. i'm not sure how you've focused on this. that house investigation which is bipartisan over in the house where they're really digging deep, issuing subpoenas, something that we are unable to do unless we have bipartisan support in the senate judiciary committee, they are doing that and moving forward is going to be really helpful. and our report here, which as you know, it uncovered a bunch of new stuff,

there are hints. >> i think that's right, chuck. know, it's a sort of situation where i think the select committee is doing the smart thing by going after bannon. he's sort of the low-hanging fruit among the people who are acting in this way. he was not acting as a government official with respect to the documents, the testimony that they're seeking. you know, on top of that, the sort of subject they're investigating does not appear to have to do with any official functions that the president was involved in. so his, you know, position legally is the weakest of the bunch. so i guess what i would say is that he's got part of a leg to stand on, and it's very wobbly because there is a little bit of case law and some language that suggests that presidents have been successful at times, and they've certainly tried to claim privilege with respect to some conversations with people who are private parties at that point, in order to fulfill the public functions. but a lot of those questions have not yet been fully litigated. >> so, you know,

chuck: the fed is slow playing there.y know that a lot of the precious are not going to dispayment. presenting it as transitory. it's going to last a lot longer. we see significant pressures in the labor market. employment costs, as you mentioned earlier in the show, are up sharply. that's not going to dispayment easily. the first shot at increasing the lake of labor comes this friday with the employment report. it's the first look at october. if you recall, a lot of the incentives for people to stale out of the labor market disappeared in early september but they randall that september report, september survey on the week that included the 12th so them very little data of people going back to work. hopefully that will be different in october but if it isn't then this labor market scarcity is going to continue for a while and that means a lot more outafford plush on wage inflation. captain lean: are you looking at companies that can cope more with higher inflation or leafs pass on some inflation precious? chuck: there's n

schumer the majority leader and put democrats in charge of every -- chuck schumer snows the history of democratic senators and republican states, switching parties. and so, since he became the majority leader of the 50/50 senate he has to have devoted some thoughts every day to keeping joe manchin in the democratic party. publicly, joe manchin has always said that he hasn't given a thought to leaving the democratic party, but david corn reports, today, in mother jones, quote, in recent day senator joe manchin has told associates that he is considering leaving the democratic party if president joe biden and democrats on capitol hill do not agree to his demand to cut the size of the social infrastructure bill from 3.5 trillion dollars to 1.7 five trillion, according to people who have heard manchin discuss this. manchin has said that if this were to happen, he would declare himself an american independent. and he has devised a detail exit strategy for his departure, manchin has discussed bolting from the democratic party, perhaps to place pressure on biden and democrats in these negot

as for my comment on chuck grassley, i thought it was an extraordinary thing. here you have an actual -- the dean, the dean of the senate, especially on the republican side, going to a trump rally right after he announces re-election campaign and this is someone who while he did not vote for impeachment the second time around did put out a fairly blistering statement that condemned trump for how he handled the post-election lead-up to the january 6 riots. yet here today he issued a report and i thought in some ways more notable than the senate democratic judiciary committee report in that it said essentially trump should be ab solved and almost applauded for not going down the route he explored nine times and testing the system and doing the constitutional responsibility to make sure that the vote was done accurately. it is a wild conclusion to reach akin to saying someone who's conspireing to rob a bank and asking all these people to help him do it should get a pass because he didn't go through with the act of robbery. to me it symbolized that the institutiona
