storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell is here and he's making some big promises. stay with us. >>> firefighters are battling a fast moving wildfire in los angeles this morning that could threaten some huge homes. it broke out yesterday afternoon and has already burned more than 70 acres. located in the foothills near the 405 freeway, smoke snarled rush hour traffic last night and forced the evacuation of the getty center art museum. the area is also known for its large mansions. more than 200 firefighters and five helicopters and planes are battling the blaze which is only about 40% contained. very dangerously close to residential areas. >> and the last thing they need is some strong winds because that'll just flare that up. >> we have a little fire danger here as well. it's been fairly dry for most of the year. we are 7 inches behind in rainfall. a little dry, very low humidity and a gusty wind. if you're going outside today if you can hold off on burning any of your outdoor stuff or maybe for another week or so, let us get more rain or let the wind die down that

let's check in with meteorologist chuck bell. >> hey there. good morning to you. a very good morning to everybody out there in the news4 nation at home. a beautiful way to get the day started. it is noticeably cooler behind the storm and the cold front. yesterday, we had quite a blast of wind and rain across the area. peak wind dusts across the area, 59 miles per hour. the peak gust at andrews, 59 mile per hour. and in rosslyn, virginia, 59 mile per hour. even dusts 40 or higher for dulles airport, reagan national and the naval academy in annapolis. first thing this morning, temperatures 50s and low 60s. still a drop or two showing up on the eastern shore for rain showers first thing this morning. we don't need to worry about that. can't rule out a spot of showers of five or ten minutes in pennsylvania and west virginia. rest of the seven day in a few minutes. >>> the storm caused plenty of problems in northern virginia, especially for those in the rosslyn area. people were at the jazz festival when the storm arrive, one person was injured when a stage collapsed.

chuck. >>> protesters took to the streets over austerity measures. just minutes way -- actually now -- minutes past the opening bell. let's get to the market. becky quick, are you going to react? >> yesterday the market started seeing some of these pictures late in the day. things turned a little violent because of the austerity measures that are expected to come today. in fact, the bank of spain said the company is in a severe recession, near 25% in the nation, near 50% for the youth there. they're tired of these austerity measures that keep coming down. things did turn violent overnight. we saw protests in greece turn a little violent overnight too. this was a general strike day in greece and as some of these pictures have been coming back in, it did impact what the markets were doing here. in europe you see steep red arrows. this morning it looks like we're going to be opening on a mixed note. this came on day after the markets had actually closed town. the markets had the worst day in a month. so it looks like we're once again focusing on europe in all of these pictures. >> all right. we'll be watching."the dai

bell about to ring. let's get the market rundown. becky quick is here. what are the numbers? >> chuck came in a number that was down. good news and bad news. in the end, i don't think it's a whole great set of numbers here. they were actually down those weekly jobless claims by 3,000. the bad news is economists expected a bigger drop and numbers above 350 that have people concerned. we're probably not seeing great activity in the jobs market just yet. maybe more concerning is something we heard from norfolk southern. the big train company came out and affirmed something we had been hearing from fedex earlier this week. we talked about how federal express lowered its numbers and that's a big deal because the transports are very important about where the economy is headed. these are forward looking numbers that tell us where we can expect the economy to be three, six, nine months down the road. norfolk southern came in and lowered earnings because they see coal shipments and merchandise shipments below what people have been anticipating. that's not great news for what it means for this
