nbc bay area's chuck coppola is live in pleasanton where the police are saying and police are saying he was violent toward that officer. >> reporter: that's right. 19-year-old john deming jr. was from san jose. he was on his way this past weekend to visit his father in oakdale when for some reason he stopped off in pleasanton and had this fatal run-in with police. it all happened around 2:00 a.m. sunday morning. very early in the early morning hours, police were called responding to a burglar alarm that went off along first street in pleasanton at the specialty sales classic car shop. police say they found deming inside the building jumping across car tops refusing police orders to come out. then threw a floor jack that at one description weighed 50 pounds another description weighed 90 pounds according to police. the police officers were not struck with the floor jack. police department then saw him leave through a back window presumably the one they think he entered. and then got into a scuffle with police when the shooting happened. however, deming's father refutes the police acco

let's bring in chuck coppola in the east bay where traffic is building up. >> reporter: it is not quite bump for bumper at this point but it is definitely slow and go, nearly bumper to bumper heading into the bay bridge area. we are at golden gate fields across from interstate 80. you can see the cars on the other side of the highway there, very slow and go. the cars on this side of the highway, however, are heading towards interstate 80's split with the i 580 toward the richmond san rafael bridge and are find nothing backup there. at the bay bridge toll plaza the metering lights have been on since before 3:00 p.m. the lashing approximate pur ferry ran 11 trips to san francisco instead of the usual four with more trips still to come. each ferry killed with 200 to 300 people. the parking lot at larks spur was not full but that will likely change as ferries to tonight's giants game begin service. as for construction itself it is on schedule in the presidio along doyle drive. in fact, one section of asphalt being laid has been completed faster than expected. >> we started this morning arou
